I am in a taxi right now, going from Tianmu to Xinzhuang. The taxi driver has no idea how to get to my destination, despite me telling him nearby landmarks, showing him the address, and him using Google Maps. What should have been a 35 minute journey is now nearing on one hour, and we still aren’t anywhere near. He isn’t trying to trick me, he just has no idea. I suspect he is not the actual licensed driver of this taxi as he doesn’t look like his license picture but whatever. This happens so often, it really pisses me off. Even when they are the real driver of the taxi, they rarely know where things are, and ask for directions. Is it just me?
Yeah, this is why I use uber now.
You have to ask the taxi if they know where it is to make sure this doesn’t happen.
Do they always answer honestly?
That’s what I did today, he said yes.
Okay now we are in Banqiao
Most of the time, but I can almost always also tell when they don’t seem to really know.
We have now pulled over to look at a map.
He had the wrong address on his Google Map directions.
Last time this happened the driver gave me a discount, lets see what happens this time. I can’t actually see the meter from my seat but I can hear it going up.
I hope you get a very generous discount. He basically doubled your travel time. Keep us updated
Similar thread from a few months ago:
I got home eventually, the journey was about an hour and 15 mins. At the end, he said “just pay me what you want”. I paid him $550 which is what Google says the trip is supposed to cost. The meter was almost $900. He was actually a nice guy, just really screwed up the journey.
Because they are either retarded or scammers…or both.
If you ask this question on Reddit /r/Taiwan they will be sure to say that YOU said the address wrong and it’s YOUR fault.
