Why is the Taiwan dollar weaker than Japanese currency

Short while could over 5 JP yen to T$> now it’s like 4.8. Thought Taiwan economy was doing better

Economic strength doesn’t always mean stronger exchange rate

Taiwan has an economy based on low cost manufacturing, they need to keep the value of the currency low. Big China does the same thing.

What a massive drop  I remember when 1 twd=2.5jpy

The Bank of Japan intervenes a lot in the currency market these days, with the help of the US

Weak yen + Japanese not obsessed with buying real estate like Chinese-speaking people are + Taiwan’s Japanophilic population

And you get this:

Probably where most of the money is going as I see no exuberance in Taiwan.

Many factors go into currency exchange rates.

Exchange rate is not an indicator of economic performance.

Taiwan economy is shit Taiwan dollar is weak, Taiwan dollar is strong Taiwan dollar is weak, it’s due to the central bank heavy currency manipulation and their rules on where funds can put their money.

The only thing I can say is at least it’s not the Japanese yen.
