Why is there a steady wash of pro-Trump, anti-Democrats propaganda circulating on Taiwanese social media?

US being strong and internally stable is better for Taiwan structurally. Using Taiwan to spite China, while the entire nation is divided, weakened by pandemic, and in disarray, is only better for Taiwan superficially.

There’s a bipartisan consensus against China right now, but that doesn’t change the fact that every administration prior to this one has been played by the CCP.

What’s more important to the issue is who would defend Taiwan in case of attack. The congresspeople writing the bills to do so are all Republican.

US is not unstable, not even close.

Americans are resilient. Wouldn’t bet against the US.

Why does everyone here think the US is up in flames???

Let’s see… most death from COVID-19 in the world, 10th worst if you count deaths per million population. Racial riots and protests. Estimated unemployment rate around 15%. Multiple outbreaks in army bases and on carriers. It certainly isn’t doing great.

Because it fits in with their anti-Trump narrative and their goal of insuring that Trump doesn’t win re-election.

Just trying to supply some background for people like you who don’t care or know about history.
“Those who don’t remember the past” etc.

So you’re saying you don’t expect the Taiwanese government to support whoever more strongly supports them, because of what happened 8n the past. Got it.

Those aren’t race riots. Those are multiracial riots against police brutality

Trump advisors like Navarro know the CCP very well. They know the CCP makes all kinds of promises to protect intellectual property, etc and then never follow through.

Which is why they actually took meaningful action against China on trade. Every administration prior to this one has been duped.

There is no way to stop China from stealing IP when you owe them a bunch of debt and lack the support of European and Asian allies.

With China paying loads of money to buy the support from smaller states, the US has absolutely no pull in the UN, WTO, and the WHO.

The only thing you can do is cut back from doing any business with China, and without the support of US allies that could backfire and put the US in a more vulnerable economic state.

Since when did Europe ever do anything anyway? All they ever do is finger wag.

They could limit access to the US market for their companies the way they do to US. Kind of like Hauwei now. It would have been easier in the past, China has grown considerably in the last decade.

Probably because Hillary was considering the benefits of selling out the Taiwanese in return for the mainland writing off Chinese-held US debt.

In truth, there are American politicians on both sides of the aisle who view Taiwan as a bargaining chip, but I imagine Trump’s aggressive stance on trade with China as well as China’s disputes in the S China Sea make him more popular among Taiwanese.

Both sides sucked up to China because globalization. Why wouldn’t they when even most Taiwanese assumed some sort of unification is inevitable? The west duped itself into thinking democracy and freedom is inevitable with enough exposure.

Trump did something for Taiwan but lots more have also happened, China authoritarianism is highest its been since Mao, HK happened, Taiwanese indentify as Taiwnaese now, the pandemic is ploughing through the states.

Anti China rhetoric is a bipartisan thing now. Just look at the Taiwan bills passing unanimously. The new cold war has started and it won’t be back to normal anytime soon.

If you were an anti-communist South Korean, you’d be really pleased at the election of Donald Trump. He promises to unleash ‘fire and fury’ on the North, he calls Kim Jong-un ‘Little Rocket Man’, he…what?
He stages a summit with Kim, orders U.S. troops not to engage in war games with the South Korean army, sits back while Kim builds up to 60 nukes, threatens to charge the South more for U.S. protection, refers to exchanging ‘love letters’ with Kim- then you hear a Taiwanese saying “yay, Trump is on our side!”

Maybe now. But even a few months ago the democrats are still trying to play the racist rhetoric when Trump closed flights from China. I just don’t believe the Democrats see China as the threat they are. They opposed Trumps efforts in balancing trade the entire time. Hopefully they now will get on board with doing something about it.

Not many will say “Biden is on our side!”. I think most can see Trump is better. Since Biden has been in office for decades and have been duped by China the entire time. Even as the VP. 3 years of Trump has been better than decades of Biden. Not hard to imagine why Taiwanese will favor Trump when it’s compared to Biden.
