The protests are led by younger people and burst open when the government banned social media, though deeper anger about political corruption and a lack of opportunities is the primary driver of the disorder.
That is nuts, civil war territory. Don’t mess with the kids phones eh.
Nah I can see it goes deeper than that but still…
It’s no surprise that the countries with the most civil unrest have stagnating economies also, Indonesia, Nepal.
My former neighbors in NY are from Nepal. It’s a Nepobaby thing. Government officials living the life and their worthless kids going overseas and living theirs. the kids, flood FB and TT and social media with their extravagant lifestyles and those folks stuck in the lower castes of their caste system, yup, you read that right, are fed the f up with the corruption.
The Nepalese yoot were inspired by the Indonesian yoot is what I am hearing from the source closer to the horse’s mouth.
The Maoists are loving it. My money is on a military overthrow with Maoist backing.
The fuller story is that the elites there banned social media platforms for everyone except their entitled kids, because said entitled kids (and the system itself) were getting criticized more and more relentlessly.
People started to protest, police shot the protestors - killing teenagers, and even children. The military sympathized with and started to protect the people thankfully.
Rumor has it some third party started making things go nuclear with riots and burning things - the original protestors don’t seem to have been the ones taking it to the level that it is now.
The whole “every tragedy is an opportunity” concept seems to be being leveraged hard by a certain power right now.
Their PM and cabinet memebers fled after the shooting of protestors. What cowards.
It is! You can see how the movement of foreigners is really the key factor here.
Less reporting.
They would love an information shutdown.
No way that happens. You’d have to power down the country.
Who enters politics? And what personality makes it to the top? Everywhere.
Jeebus, don’t give China any ideas!
