I was told to remove wisdom teeth two at a time and not all four at once, i am removing them because 3 of them already got cavities and one is impacted could cause issues too. I wish I could get it all done at once but is it normal to do two at a time? Also, I was told I could get a collagen sponge inserted and they are charging me ntd 5000 per piece. Is the price acceptable range?
That’s expensive. I didn’t paid more than 3000, closer to 2000 actually.
May I know where did you get it done? Btw the extraction process itself is covered by NHI, the 5000 charge is for that sponge thing alone. Preferrably doctor can communicate in English
Yes, that sponge was around 2000.
I think wisdom teeth removal is only done some days of the week, I did mine on a Tuesday.
Must be a new thing?
Even if you don’t opt for them, you should be fine, I’d say. I had my wisdom teeth removed about 6 years ago (outside Taiwan) - no sponge and recovered fine within a couple of days.
If money is no concern and/or you want to recover as fast as possible, then go for it. But I’d assume that most wisdom teeth in the world are still done without those sponges - and complication rate is still rather low.
I would recommend the sponge. I had an infection after removing two on one side in Germany. Had to stay for a week in hospital on antibiotics and painkillers.
I just had my wisdom teeth removed last week (Friday) and also paid 5000 for the collagen sponge.
Recovery has been going well, though I did experience a tingling “bee-biting” sensation on the cheek and nearby upper teeth a few days after surgery , this seems normal as nerves heal
Swelling peaked around 48 hours and my face looked normal by Monday. Make sure to have your follow-up appointment about a week after surgery, avoid crunchy, spicy, very hot, or very cold foods
When are you able to eat solid food again?
Paid 3000 for a sponge and it fell out two or three days later. Doctor didn’t do the best stitch
I had 3 out all at once in the chair and it was fine. I wouldn’t want to have to do it again but it wasn’t traumatic or unbearable or particularly painful.
I don’t know about the price as I didn’t have mine out in Taiwan
I had mine removed probably 5 or 6 years ago. There is no way it cost anything close to 5,000, that sounds wildly expensive to me. I don’t think it cost me much more than a few hundred all in.
I got two on one side removed first, had to wait 2-3 weeks, and had the other two removed after that. I didn’t have any problems with recovery, but the second two were incredibly hard for the dentist to extract, so much so that the local anaesthetic began to wear off during the process. The pain was excruciating, but I didn’t want to look like a wimp so I tried to mask the agony. Thought I’d done a good job of that until it was finally over, when I slid off the chair which was covered in a pool of my sweat ![]()
Don’t do that.
I was able to start eating some soft solid foods after about 48 hours , things like very tender chicken, pasta, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, or well-cooked vegetables , bananas , Before that, I stuck to softer foods like Greek yogurt, oatmeal, soft bread, tofu, pudding and soups.
It really depends on how much you can open your mouth, but I recommend waiting a bit longer before eating harder foods. In the first days, brushing and rinsing is harder, and you can’t fully enjoy eating yet.
One thing I noticed is that I felt hungry most of the time , warm (but not very hot) soup was one of the most comforting foods for me
Something that helped me (but you should confirm with your dentist first) was using black tea bags. Black tea contains tannic acid, which can:
-
Help reduce bleeding by promoting blood clotting
-
Provide mild antibacterial properties for gum healing
-
Reduce swelling and inflammation
I used black tea bags 2–3 times per day in the first couple of days. Just let them cool to a comfortable temperature and avoid pressing too hard on the surgical site.

I was told to avoid dairy products because of the bacteria they contain. Completely harmless when eaten normally - but with an open wound, it could cause an infection. (But not sure if that’s still up-to-date or more of a myth…).
Soup is a perfect choice, I’d say. Just get some canned ones with different flavours.
