Withdrawing Money From Charles Schwab Trading Account

Hello folks,

Has anyone withrawn money from their Charles Schwab account since TD Ameritrade was taken over by CS? I’m just wondering what hoops (if any) you needed to jump through or was it all pretty straightforward. I’m British, so I opened up a USD account at Hua Nan Bank to originally transfer money to TD Ameritrade before the switch to CS.

Thanks in advance

EWC

I haven’t withdrawn money, but I have done a few other things wrt moving money in between accounts and bringing money into an IRA—transferring from IRA to IRA—

Seems to work pretty well. No troubles and their customer service is great. :+1:

If you’re living in Taiwan, they’re no longer issuing Visa debit cards (as of 2021 I think), so your only choice is basically an expensive wire transfer. I’ve been bitching at them about this for a while, and they keep saying, “maybe we’ll start issuing them again sometime in the future.”

I have a HSBC expat account and was able to withdraw to that account, funds arrived almost immediately (potentially without cost, though I would need to check)…

If you happened to have or open a HSBC Expat account you can then use their global money service to get to taiwan (if you had a HSBC account here as well)… maybe too many hoops…

Checked and there was a $15 fee for the wire

I used to have a check book but actually never used it. There was no practical way to use it here. A visa debit card would be quite useful. I think First Trade offers one.

Yes, it would. Schwab also provides three free domestic (U.S.) ACH transfers per quarter. So if you have a bank account in the U.S. that provides cheap/free international transfers, that could be another option.
