Watched a third of it so far. Excellent!
Which whole thing? You seem to be OK with the trans thing. ![]()
Sure. Some things make more sense to me than others, despite the inevitable rejoinder that it must be exactly the same.
Well, to me, there are similarities. One being the insistence that others support and defend oneās delusions.
In fairness, and without drawing any parallels, youād presumably agree that if someone succeeds in chopping their foot off, they really are disabled now!
Personally Iād also say they should be allowed to chop their foot off if they really want to, but Iām pretty liberal like that.
*except transracialism, thatās off limits
If thereās nothing wrong with their foot and they want to chop it off, they should have their head examined.
Is that the banana index?
Probably. Iām not sure where we draw the line on government-enforced good decision making, though.
Chopping off perfectly good body and fully functional parts seems to be a line.
Should a quadriplegic be able to chop off her legs in order to fit into her daughters compact car?
Should a doctor help him cut off his foot?
Thatās up to the doctor, I suppose, with appropriate safeguards around informed consent. I donāt imagine insurance would cover it.
Iām thinking about plastic surgery in general, which can involve (say) trimming bone off someoneās jaw to make their face more heart-shaped. Or even having teeth removed and replaced with more beautiful fake ones. (Edit: or super risky leg-lengthening surgeries). Is there a distinction other than whether we think itās a good idea?
Mental health?
Assessed how, and by whom? I feel like itās a bit circular ā you think itās a bad idea, so itās a mental health problem.
I donāt necessarily even disagree, but Iām finding it hard to pin down exactly why I think one example isnāt crazy and the other is. Jaw surgery gives a perceived social advantage, I guess?
Maybe itās a mental health problem - thatās why itās a bad idea? Sounds reasonable to me
Well sure, but the question of whether itās a mental health problem (and why) remains unaddressed there.
Yes, but does he want his own bathroom? Does he want me to agree with him that heās literally trying to erase himself with graffiti? Does he want me to subsidize his self mutilation?
Kind of a bell end argument here.
Cutting off your foot because it feels funny is a bad idea
