Work Contract ends before Work Permit and ARC

Hi! I am asking in advance, just in case.

I still have 4 months remaining on my WORK CONTRACT but I want to be sure so I can take actions right away.

My WORK CONTRACT ends this July 31, 2025.
But my WORK PERMIT and ARC is still valid until December 2025.

In the case that my employer will NOT FILE to terminate my WORK PERMIT, (but only end my work contract and choose not to extend) is it still legal to stay in Taiwan as long as my WORK PERMIT and ARC is valid?

My employer is still undecided whether to extend or re-sign with me. I consider their indecisiveness as negative already. And I also have desire to explore new employer. Does that mean I can use the remaining months to stay in Taiwan and find for new employer instead? However, I am not 100% sure if this is valid. I have done some research and have read that this is actually okay.

Note: I can definitely start looking for new employers now while it’s still very early. However my work load is too heavy and I barely have time to seek out, more so process documents in the following months.

I’d suggest making an appointment with the immigration office and explaining your issue. Maybe make a recording of your boss refusing to terminate. If you’ve stated clearly to him that you’re quitting, then I think it’s illegal for him not to issue a severance letter.

it’s actually quite the opposite. My employer (school) and I will already end our terms this July. And we both agreed not to extend.

However, I want to stay at least 1 month more after my work ends, tour around and find new apartment maybe.

And even if my work with employer ends this July, my work permit is still valid until December. So, that means I can still legally stay in Taiwan after work ends in July, right?

As soon as your contract ends your work permit will also end. When your job finishes, just go apply for a “Searching for Work” visa. It lasts 6 months and you can renew for an additional 6 months by showing flimsy proof your searching for work (IE an active account on a Taiwanese job searching site).

This but not your not allowed to do any work with this visa until you find a job that will issue a work permit. They can also ask for proof of how you’re funding your life while looking for work (seldom but I know it can happen).

I see. I was very confused since my school already notified me that my work ends this July, but upon reviewing my permit it is until December.

Then again, it might not be useful for the school that I teach further, but only until December since that doesn’t complete a whole semester of a school year.

Thanks!
