Hi, I recently fly to Taiwan for work interview and at the of my trip and one week after the interview, I was expecting a favourable result. It turned out that for non-Taiwanese universities graduates, candidate must earn at least 48000 NTD monthly to be eligible for work permit application. I find it to be too high as my monthly expected salary is only 28000 NTD and I don’t think any company in Taiwan is willing to offer me such salary. I currently only have 1 yr of work experience and holds degree from European uni. I have searched online if there is exemptions available for the minimum monthly salary, but unfortunately there isn’t any. So does anyone have experience on this issue? Is there a way to be eligible for work permit? Thank you and have a nice day.
Why would you want to work for a company that’s only paying you 28k NTD in the first place?
28k NTD is low but yeah given my lack of expertise and experience, I can accept 28k monthly. But after several months of good performance, I plan to ask for raise to 30k+ monthly. But first I need to get my work permit and I notice few companies in Taiwan is not willing to accept foreigners.
do you have a passport issued from a country which taiwanese government recognize English is an official language there?
If yes, you can get a work permit for buxiban at minimum hourly rate of ~160NTD. With the minimum of 14 hr per week, it will be ~10000 NTD per month.
You mayby already checked, though, FYI
What is the minimum salary per person for foreigners hired to perform specialized technical jobs?

Do not make this mistake, Taiwan will be a death trap for your career if you are hired as entry level local hire.
28k is ok if you have a family supporting you, if you are from Europe you will not be able to support yourself long term on this salary.
if you are without experience (don’t know if you also lack chinese language skills) stay in Europe and come to Taiwan as am experienced hire.
or try to find work in china, hong Kong, Singapore or Vietnam , the market there is better.
living in Taiwan is a lifestyle choice, its nice, safe and friendly, but don’t make a mistake of relocating to Asia for such a low pay.
If you are an experienced systems analyst hire, but no chinese language skills, is there still a chance or is it virtually impossible without speaking mandarin?
very difficult, but possible if:
- you have experience and expertise in a needed vertical that is in short of qualified manpower.
- you work for a foreign MNC where English is more spoken.
- you work for a company from your home country where they need some one they can trust.
- your TW father in law owns the company .
some choose to freelance remotely for overseas companies to avoid the language barrier. but this has other problems (Visa etc.)
imagine the opposite, what job prospects would a chinese speaking systems analyst have in the UK without speaking English ?
Thanks. Yeah of course, totally understand that, but a lot of development teams abroad operate in english because all the programming language nomenclature is based on it. Definite edge case though. At least it’s worth a brief job hunt
If that’s the case, it means the spouse is Taiwanese, hence no work permit is needed.
Sorry, kind of thread hijacking, though related topic, so I post here.
@HomeAgain11, welcome to the forum ![]()
Just wanted to point out, that if you are not a ROC citizen with household registration, basically you need a work permit, and if you are a male ROC citizen with household registration, basically you should do a conscription.
Thanks for the heads up on the requirements. Will look into that. Thank you very much for sharing ,
Hi tando,
Just wondering if I placed this thread of mine under Forumosafieds and Jobs, will it be qualified to stand on its own as an independent thread instead of being merged into someone else’s? Thank you.
I’d also add my contact info here if it’s appropriate:
My Line ID:.
Linekarate (send friend request to connect.)
that forum is just for an advertisement, and automatically locked soon after posted so that no reply can be added. Mods will help you to move it to work in Taiwan board or somewhere, if it is appropriate. @tempogain ?
I think it is not recommended to publish your personal contact, unless you don’t mind to receive many spam.
You might like Taiwan and fall in love with the place but don’t let that cloud your rationality and accept offers that hinder your career through lack of development, exposure and poor salary.
maybe can you tell us in which fields are you looking for work? you should’nt think 1 year experience is not enough, if you are smart with 0 exp you can do better than dumb people with 10+ year plus, you need better expectetion, you gotta pump those numbers up!
