I am curious to know if you know the meaning of the word ā€˜permit’

You were so preoccupied with whether or not you could,
you didn’t stop to think if you should.

I guess he refers to dirty foreigners, not pure hearted citizens

Thanks for the compliment about my pure heart. Still warm is the fluid it pumps around my body. I’ve known many foreigners who have worked here without a work permit. It’s not the end of the world if you do so.

Until you get deported

Well there is that. I know many who got deported. Some tried to get me deported for not having an ARC or work permit but alas all that happened was that they got deported instead. oops

Anyone caught working illegally or without the right permit will get fined, deported and banned from entering Taiwan for ā€œxā€ number of years (usually 3 years minimum).

A Gold Card holder (South Korean influencer ā€œPenguin Girlā€ (Yoo Yoon-jin), has been banned from entering Taiwan for three years due to illegal work activities in 2023. She was denied entry at the airport on April 5, 2025, after the National Immigration Agency (NIA) was notified by the Ministry of Labor (MOL) that she had been working illegally. The ban also resulted in the revocation of her Taiwan Gold Card.

It depends, if on a working holiday visa then it would have an exemption from needing to apply for a work permit, if married to a local also.

Here is an FAQ from the WDA on ā€œUnder what circumstances will an application for work permit not be needed?ā€ which details the situations more.

Dude, seriously? Okay, think of it like this: Can you drive a car without a license? Of course. Should you? Obviously not.

It seems that fewer schools (especially in the Taipei area) are offering work permits for foreign teachers. I guess that it’s probably some combination of: 1. there are already enough open work permit holders around, those with APRCs or married to locals. 2. declining birth rates and not as much a need for foreign teachers 3. I just don’t think there are as many 20-somethings coming to Taiwan to teach English after college any more like there were 10, 20 or 30 years ago.

also students can do limited part time work on a student visa.

No.

Students can do limited part time work on a student visa after they successfully apply for and attain a part time work permit for students.

I still have mine somewhere. All eight of them.

I stand corrected, didn’t know that, sorry for spreading fake news!

Maybe you need to sit down for a bit after that :upside_down_face:
