Is it normal here for prospective employer to designate particular bank when it comes to them depositing pays into ie. I currently dont have an account with that particular bank.
Also is there any agency/ or gov department i can use to found out about a particular employer/company (non- english teaching) ie. any history/ or problems etc.

Yes, this is standard practice.
As @Dr_Milker says, it is normal. You can still keep your original Bank though, at least if you put a bit in the account sometimes.
