Working in Taiwan - Expired passport and moved out HHR

Hi everyone,

I am a bit confused about my situation and hopefully someone can give me pointers or links to find this information!

I was born in Taiwan, I had a Taiwanese passport and household registration. My family immigrated to Canada when I was 9 and I have not renewed my Taiwanese passport since. My household registration is inactive/moved-out but my parents’ are still active.

I am 26 now and received a job offer in Taiwan, but the company does not provide sponsorship or work permit.

Can I just renew my passport and activate my household registration again when I go to Taiwan and work immediately? Or will I need to apply for a work permit?

Also if you know how long it will take for the process it would be very helpful! Thank you

Yea, just renew your ROC passport at your nearest TECO and enter Taiwan with it (IMPORTANT as you can’t do the remaining procedures if you enter as a foreigner) and renew your HHR (遷入登記).

You already have the right to work.
