Athens is important historically. Itâs the cradle of democracy ferchissakes!
Rio isnât as big as Sao Paulo, but itâs in many ways the heart/center of Brazil. With Copacabana, Carnival, Corcovado, Maracana, the tourism aspect, and its history of being the capital for so many years before Brasilia became the capital, I think it rates highly. Should South America only have Buenos Aires as a representative?
Lagos may be the armpit of Africa, but Nigeria has over 200 million people, and itâs growing fast. No city within a weekâs drive is as important.
Iâve been to Rio and Brazil, a decent Taiwan centre in SaoPaulo as well large(est) Japanese town outside of Japan (mixed with Taiwanese and other Asians). its great tourist place, but Rio is more famous. But not safe, but Americans have many bad or worse cities like Chicago
That list is not totally useless, but what is it ranking cities for? Is it importance?
Why is Dubai more important than Moscow?
Why is Riyadh more important than Washington DC?
Why is Stockholm more important than Berlin?
Even so Brazil as a whole receives very few tourists. In 2019 Brazil received 6.6 million international tourists, which is like half of that of Taiwan.
Iâm at 20/100, but the U.S./North America seems to be massively overrepresented on that list (and Iâve only visited the U.S. once, when I was a kid).
If youâve been to Brazil then youâd know that robberies occur even in the nicest neighborhoods of Sao Paulo and Rio. People drive to work in bullet proof cars and rhe super rich take helicopters. That doesnât happen in the US. So while the US may have violence it is very much localized to certain neighborhoods.
