The World Vegetable Center, an international agricultural research institute, will open its 116-hectare headquarters campus in Shanhua, Tainan to the public on Saturday, 7 December from 09:00 – 15:30. All are invited to stroll the green campus grounds and explore the wonderful world of vegetables during Open Day 2019!
Visitors can take a field tour and learn about WorldVeg’s work in global vegetable breeding, production, entomology, and pathology. Booths will highlight nutrition issues and international development. Watch the new Phenospex field phenotyping system in action. See our famous Demonstration Garden, with more than 200 vegetable species. Discover our treasure: the WorldVeg Genebank, the world’s largest public collection of vegetable seed, with more than 62,000 samples of 452 species.
It’s a great event for all the family! There will be DIY activities for children and adults throughout the day. Sample tasty local Tainan snacks! Craft vendors and area seed companies will sell their products.
Look for the return of Big Tom, the world’s largest tomato!
