Went out again on Thurs… Had a ball. found out I need more articulation to do the things that I would really like to do. Will work on that. Took some parts off of an old jeep and hope to get a few more. The more I go, the more I want to upgrade. This thing is going to destroy my pocketbook. But I am going to finaly enjoy this place.
So you took off some parts of MJB’s old clunker?
Or, was it the wreck we spotted up on in Guanxi? surf the scavenger
… Well, guess your low rider could do with some body lifters, but the inspection people might be less amused.
Well, yes it is… That’s what I am worrying about when it comes to offroading and the vechicles used and smashed when doing so.
No, not MJB’s. His is an Isuzu not a REAL off roader like a Jeep. Yes, it was the one we saw up there the other day. Hope to get some more parts tomorrow. Will leave the body lift though. Too much hassle. The old pocketbook is suffering so I now have to curb it so that is why I scavenge. Use my brains not my wallet. I have to become Hakka(cheep for those who do not know).
The fantasy world you live in must be interesting…Can I join? ![]()

I also remember someone telling me that they had to follow a STOCK Rodeo just to make it into Kuanshi on their last little outing. ![]()
Hey, saw that… New to the forum… driving a white 97 TJ, not much on it yet but a 1" body lift, some engine work. Non Slip on the rear. I got that front locker off the one in Guanxi. looks to be detroit. If your out a linkou beach go under the bridge to the other side of the road to that gravel pit. Some good fun over there…

And I don’t think we need to get into this… any jeep that has to follow a rodeo into guanxi doesn’t have much of a driver!!!

Boy are we gonna have some fun in about 6 days… ![]()
I’m just worried it might turn out like this…

Yep, now that TROOPER is doing an ok job keeping that Jeep from floating away… :bravo:
that’s all it’s good for (an ankor).
Hey there, An update! There are now new tires on her. She has a new back bumper with an oversized tire carrier on a swing out bracket. She also has some new lights front and rear, for night wheeling. I just put in a new air intake system on Tuesday also. A definite increase in HP! I will also be lifting her a bit more in the comming weeks(I hope). Also new bushings. Have the parts just no money to get them installed. Hope MJB can help get some new pics on here for you. Well, that’s all for now.
Hi out there. I thought that I would let everyone out there know that the guy I bought the wrangler from now has his Cherokee up for sale. It seems he is heading back to Canada. He has posted it up here in the “for sale” site. It is a 94’ cherokee and has been well looked after. If it is anything like the wrangler I got from him then it is a gem. I have had a great time in mine and now it is time for someone else to get some enjoyment too.
He takes very good care of his vehicles and is a great guy to boot. If you are looking for a great deal that can be a lot of fun off roading then snap this up. The 4 litre will also make it even better for off roading, freeway too. If you do get it, then let me know on here and I, along with some others on here, will take you out to some great wheeling sites.
Give Lamirand a call and take a look. Then you can get in on a great thing like I did.
Now, about the wrangler. It has now been in a movie. Well, it has been filmed anyway. It is running great, just need to get a little more heat out of the heater though. It is cold up here on the mountain in the morning. For Christmas I am hoping to get some new toys to put on her. I have also found someone willing to help me lift it a bit more. I hope we can get it done soon. Maybe Chinese New Year holiday.
I have taken her out on many a trip to the hills of Guanshi. It has been put through her paces a few times. A few sets of brake pads later and still having fun. New calipers for the front brake along with new brake cylinders for the back and it stops great. Wow, do new things help out. I have also taken her out on a few beach trips. The salt causes a lot of trouble though, so have to clean her real well afterwards. I have tried to get some photos up here but I just can’t seem to get it to work. I will get some on as soon as I can figure this whole thing out.
On my wish list now are; winch, soft top, storage cases, new alternator and second battery, and well, almost anything else you can add to a jeep. What I will probably get. A new cloth for cleaning it.
Well, that’s it for now for anyone out there who is actually reading this one. Bye and hope the rain stops so I can get out and wheel some more.
Let me help you navigating, there are a few rockfaces we need it to crask down of.
OK, here’s my wishlist for mine:
- Jeep
OK, seems like your one step ahead of me, surf.
The road runner on the Bugs Bunny Show used the expresion “JEEP! JEEP!” as he scurried along.
So this Discovery can actually drive about like that then? Doesn’t it get a bit wet inside? ![]()
Disco+Confounded electronics to begin with+Deep water fording=Bet he only did that once
I’ve done it a few times in the UK. Not a bit wet inside and the electrics were sound.
Friends Cherokee fell apart and caught fire two weeks later, but was OK after being fixed.
My mum had a Rodeo like yours - took that out a few times in the water and never had a problem with it either and people say there’s tons of stuff wrong with them.
I stay out of water unless I have no choice, ie; river crossing.
Over a certain depth, it becomes exponentially detrimental to the cars vital organs. Rapidly cooling metals mean possible gasket leaks in all sorts of bad places, especially in the transmission, not even mentioning the tranny/transfer case breather tubes. There is also the possibility of stalling with the tailpipe submerged, and sucking water into the engine resulting in “hydrolock”. Lots of folks who do so find out the hard way that water truly cannot be compressed when trying to crank their waterlogged engines over with the spark plugs still in place.
Good rule of thumb for water crossings: If over the top of your tires, be prepared for possible tranny leakage…It will turn your fluid into a pink milkshake if any of the gaskets/seals fail. When in doubt, change your fluid ASAP. Hubs will need to be taken apart and relubricated, as well as possibly CV boot inspection for damage, regreasing all fittings, etc…
Finally, if hydrolocked, pull your sparkplugs and crank the hell out of the motor before attempting a restart. Failure to do so will prove the addage “water will wear the hardest stone” in less than a second.
The Zu does pretty well in the water despite having an alternator that is mounted at the bottom of the engine…
Nice advice with the shock cooling and stuff. I’m just happy that all the cars I have used in the water were not mine.
Does anyone know if the off-road trails at Guanxi are still open? Also, anyone have any directions or GPS coordinates to this place?
thanks!
