Is anyone interested in starting up a writing group of some kind? Meet up every now and then for inspiration or motivation?
I write hot, erotic novels…what kind of inspiration and motivation can you provide me?
I would, but then since I always slack off and don’t write I’d be too embarrassed to show up again after a couple of meetings. So, best not to even go in the first place.
I’m interested in joining such a group. What should we do to indicate that we are interested in joining such a group?
Would it be in Taipei? I’m sure it would be easy to find a coffeeshop or similar location to meet and discuss what we have read recently, have written, are writing, and would like to write.
Funnily enough, we here at 24seven magazine are planning to start up something along those exact lines. Really, we are. Check out the new issue, page 21.
In late March (hopefully), we’re going to offer free beer and pizza to all our current writers, half-price beer and pizza to anyone who is planning to write or take pictures for us, and welcome with open arms anyone who is neither of those things but is interested in getting involved somehow.
Some of you smart kids may have figured out that this is only a ploy to help us find more contributors for the magazine. You’re right. But it’s much more than that.
-
You get to point to your article and say “see that, I told you I was published!” to your friends.
-
When we call to talk to you about your article and you are with a group of people, you can excuse yourself by saying “it’s my editor, I have to take this.”
-
You get a good time out with other rugged, disheveled, and similarly poor (as in financial) writers.
-
We did mention free beer and pizza or something similar, didn’t we?
-
For up-and-coming writers: gentle, compassionate feedback (or brutal, heartbreaking feedback if we’re hung over and tetchy), and suggestions on how to get your work to a professional standard – from us and from experienced writers.
-
An incentive program where we hand out passes, coupons, and other great things to our contributors.
-
The magazine is just plain cool. You want to be a part of something cool, don’t you? Admit it.
We’ll be posting more details here and on our website as soon as we know what they are.
Cheers,
24seven
Better yet, you can do what normal people do and say “its my editor. Fuckim’, he can leave a message. More tea, vicar?”

My friend Quick is serious about writing and about setting up a writers’ group. He’s in Taipei – I presume you all are too.

24/7. That would be a Taichung based activity, non?
Non et Oui Monsieur.
We do host writers meetings in Taichung and as I’m sure you’re aware, the magazine is from there. But this thread is for Taipei. We want to get the same meetings going on in each of the cities where the magazine is distributed. We have been in Taipei since October but haven’t gotten around to hosting the meetings because most of our writers were from Taichung. Recently, however, we are getting more and more submissions from Taipei and so we thought it time to get our asses in gear and (as our March theme suggests) start something.
So, it looks like the meetings will take place at The Italian Job, Alleycat’s newest edition to their restaurant conglomerate, located beside the original Alleycats on Li Shui. We still have to work out the final details and the exact date but we are expecting it to be around the third week of April.
We are planning some food and drink specials and are hoping that all writers
As far as the writer’s meetings go, we are still working out the details. The guys down at The Italian Job have been busy and things have been a little hectic for the magazine as well. I hope everyone has had a chance to read the latest issues and I look forward to your comments when we finally get these monthly meetings organized.
In an attempt to finally get at least an issue ahead, we have thought out and planned the next four issues’ themes.
If you would like to write for the magazine and possibly get published, you can write about anything related to any of the themes outlined below at anytime. In a perfect world, the deadline would be the 10th of the month that the issue is coming out but do your best. We don
