This is a great article written in great detail.
Considering that wages have grown steadily the past 10 years I don’t see the merit of this argument.
Sure this is something to keep an eye on but it’s more complicated even when wages are stagnant. Take the hospitality sector for example. There’s a shortage of workers and wages don’t go up significantly that means that’s the extent of it. Any higher and all you get is broke businesses. Might as well import some people and allow these businesses to thrive.
A nuanced op-ed in Commonwealth Magazine looks more deeply at the controversy:

I’m sorry, but this is a weak writing without backing by any factual sources and avoiding anything controversial.
It appears that a part of the Taiwanese population continues to form opinions about India by engaging with Indian/other news media outlets.
As opposed to what? Travelling to India to investigate themselves?
However, it is crucial to truly comprehend the fact that according to global statistics, India has a comparatively lower rate of reported rape victims (nonetheless, this statement does not in any way minimize the significance of any individual case of rape in India).
Lower than what? Lower reported vs actual? Than other countries? Than Taiwan?
How will the treatment of Indian blue workers be different than Filipino? Same abuse or special treatment?
Or special abuse?

I went to a high school today for a meeting (part of my work, I’m not a teacher but our product requires collaboration with schools). One of the teachers I met said she expected me to have a long beard since one of the teachers in the school was Pakistani and looked like that. She “laughed it off” and said that I looked more “professional and clean” to students. (the whole conversation was in Mandarin, and she used words like 專業 and 乾淨)
The teacher was in her mid-to-late 30s at most. If this is what the school teachers here think… what can you expect the students to learn? Not really surprised anymore about the outcry earlier regarding this policy.
One response that popped into my mind: you could have said to her, Oh, look! You don’t have bound feet! I thought all traditional Chinese women had bound feet. It looks like you are one of the modern ones without it! hahaha
I wonder if that would have got the message across.

“Taiwan should stop treating immigrants as a special group excluded from mainstream society, nor should there be discriminatory treatment among the category of “foreigners.” I see this as a fundamental human rights issue.”

A collection of racist incidents towards Indians in South Korea
I guess Taiwan is much better
I should feel happier about the state of things
That was a harsh series of stories! ![]()

One Indian person I miss is 佛萊迪·墨裘瑞 and his ban Queen, even if before my time I can still see on you tube. Good singer and handsome man at his time. (I think he is of Indian ethic person, but note 100% sure)
Generally, unless you are a local, or clearly Caucasian and decently featured, you don’t want to stick out anywhere in Asia.
This includes (but not limited to) facial hair, piercings, tattoos, body odor/perfume/cologne, fancy/bump clothing (may include jewelry), too skinny/fat.
Else, people will judge negatively. Even you are fellow Asians.
To be fair, even Singaporeans and Malaysians consider Indonesians working there as sub-par to them.
Like all of them are coming from the same fruit basket.
Some say it out loud, some don’t.
Another angle to this is that the racism isnt just about the skin color but financial status. People who are racist to a brown skin would also have this notion that such people are poor and thus beneath us.
There arre stories i have heard of indians with dark skin marrying asian women but all of those indians were succesful businessman or earn very high salary and have all the things like a house and car and all those asian checklist.
If you are rich, then the dark skin become secondary. Its not like people wont be racist to you at all still but somewhere someone will look past it compared to someone who isnt financially so strong.
Stonetown, Zanzibar to be exact. Been there and to his ancestral house, which is now a museum.
I think the motion passed… the Indians are coming.
I’m worried about potential backlash and xenophobia round 2
“Taiwan Representative to India Baushuan Ger (葛葆萱) met with the Chief Minister of India’s Mizoram state”
I think it will take time still for migrant workers to come here but i think they are thinking of bringing only those who look kinda asian and not typical indian.
