Just like Irish are all drunks, Italians are all Mafia, Jews are greedy capitalists, WASPs are uptight, blacks love crime and fried chicken, working class white Americans in red states are methheads. and so on. Thereâs truth in all stereotypes because a lot of people you meet actually are cartoon stereotypes. But the vast majority of us arenât. Weâre all just normal people. You can draw broad generalizations from statistical data and notice certain problems in certain communities, such as the meth epidemic amongst the Scotch-Irish Appalachian-American community. (Iâm south English/Welsh, meself.) But saying that J.D. Vance is a methhead hillbilly married to a rapist Indian wife is ridiculous, as we can all agree, no?
I mean, where I come from, as I suspect a lot of yâall do as well, the vast majority of crime is not caused by immigrants. Itâs caused by the local yokels. I have way more to fear from some white or black Arkie strung out on meth or crack or whatever jumping me in the trailer park while Iâm on the way to EZ-Mart at 1 in the morning to buy a breakfast burrito than any Mexican. Theyâre all sleeping at that time - gotta get up in the morning to go chop off chicken heads in the factory for $7 an hour.
I see this all the time for anything to India or from India. Indians need to educate themselves on major faux pas of other countries. Wheelchair service is for people with disabilities in other countries but for Indians they think itâs a premium service for them to roll you around the airport.
In India they get this for their parents or grandparents when they travel because they think itâs the right thing to do for them. But itâs simply not appropriate.
Its a really bad look and people are starting to notice more and more and itâs honestly becoming a joke at this point.
Pointing out a documented spike in sexual-offence cases from a particular group isnât the same as claiming JD Vance is a methhead married to a cartoon villain.
Youâre basically proving the problem: when the data is uncomfortable, suddenly it becomes âletâs talk about every other stereotype in the world except the one actually relevant right now.
As an Indigenous Australian from a Stolen Generations background, I can say this much: white Aussies actually do have a âproblemâ theyâve cleaned themselves up. They donât drink like they used to, they donât smoke like they used to, and theyâve generally gotten their act together over the last couple of decades.
There are still methheads at one end of the socio-economic spectrum in Australia and some cokeheads at the loftier end. But they are not the majority of people.
Sure, Australia still has some methheads and cokeheads (just like every country) has its problem people in society. But itâs nothing compared to the fentanyl catastrophe in the US, where entire communities are using it and you see this sort of shit.
And itâs not just white and black communities in the U.S., fentanyl abuse rates among Asian-American communities (including Taiwanese-Americans) have been climbing sharply too. Drug abuse is not just a âwhite problemâ or âblack problemâ over there.
I think hard drugs are still probably increasing in the population.
Australia having the more strict and annoying customs helps. They are so strict, I canât send one of my products there legally. One of my products is a remover and has the solvent GBL in the formula. GBL converts to the drug GHB. Almost every country Iâve found I ship to makes an exemption for GBL in a formulation. Aus does not make this exemption.
Taiwan is by no means perfect, and we have made entire threads about things Taiwanese people do that is frustrating.
But Taiwanese people have created one of the safest countries to live in for everyone. There are maybe a hand full of places I could comfortably tell any women in my life itâs perfectly safe to walk around at night anywhere.
I think itâs entirely reasonable to consider if importing large amounts of people from a different place will impact this impressive society in terms of safety.
This topic opened my mind how this is worldwide problem for women, thanks for all info and posts showing it goes beyond Taiwan. A man will say stereotype, bit itâs women need worry very anti-female view.
