Yet another mass shooting in the US

Again— we shall see. They arrested him for something.

Comparing guns to nukes is really bad comparison. Maybe some could be said about full auto weapons or machine guns, but sweeping bans just punishes everyone, considering a massive number of people own them.

Requiring them to be secured from unauthorized use is sensible though.

They’ll find something. He’s going to jail no matter what, even if it’s for something silly. The public has spoken. Prosecutors job is to find a law, any law to lock him up for the amount of time they deem acceptable.

Really? Is it? I prefer to wait and see .

It’s either that or mob justice… they’ve decided to direct their anger at the parent.

I mean we can just restrict anything that could possibly be used as weapons like the UK and there will still be a perception of high crime.

Is that right? I must have missed all those mobs in the past,

No it isn’t.

Yes it is!

Nukes require trillions of dollars of industries to produce. It also requires a lot of maintenance. You can’t simply just make one.

Guns can be made in a machine shop by anyone with rudimentary machining skills.

Isn’t

Is too!

Really?

A bit more on dad’s arrest :

Authorities are investigating whether Colin Gray bought the AR-style weapon as a gift for his son in December 2023, law enforcement sources told CBS News, the BBC’s US partner.

The boy’s maternal grandfather told the New York Times he partly blames the tumultuous home life after Mr Gray’s split from his daughter.
“I understand my grandson did a horrendous thing - there’s no question about it, and he’s going to pay the price for it,” Charlie Polhamus told the newspaper.
"My grandson did what he did because of the environment that he lived in,” he added.

Due to gun violence as last year’s Texas state fair the organizers this year are trying to ban guns from the event. Texas Attorney General is going to sue the fair officials.
The logic is banning guns will undermine public safety. From the article: The fair’s policy has faced significant opposition from lawmakers, with 70 state legislators signing a letter accusing the ban of undermining public safety.

Sure. We were kind of talking about the charges and the defense though, no? If you don’t do something you should, but the law doesn’t require it, does it matter legally? In hindsight, people are like it’s fucked up. But they’re not willing to change anything. But charges get brought because it’s fucked.

I think it’s like a few years ago, a couple days after the Colorado grocery store shooting, a dude (Rico Marley) shows up at a grocery store wearing body armor.and 6 loaded weapons in Atlanta. He was initially charged with 11 felonies: five counts of criminal attempt to commit a felony and six counts of possession of a weapon during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.

But those charges were reduced to misdemeanor reckless conduct. Because it doesn’t seem he actually broke any gun laws. I can’t find if he was found guilty if even those charges (might not be resolved yet).

There’s limits on handguns, very few on rifles. On private property, no restrictions on rifles, including semi automatics, that I’m aware of. Ranges and such obviously have their own rules. Hunting is allowed for minors without adults present, including on public land, starting at age 12 with a hunter safety course.

Nobody is really talking about this other than you.

“Somehow”? It’s pretty obvious that this actually pretty freaking effective. Not going to happen in the US, so not sure why you bring up this straw man Everytime there’s a discussion on maybe, possibly having some sensible gun regulations.

I once knew someone (only in passing) who quite plausibly claimed to have done something like that. But I fear that to go into the relevant details of that anecdote would have a very negative effect on the theme of the thread.

It’s worth a try at this point :rofl::rofl:

I reserve a cautious optimism that you’re right on this point

Not rocket science at all. It’s incredibly easy to do.

In fact the M3 grease gun and the Sten gun is engineered so that a garage worth of rudimentary tools could make it.

Nukes is like a trillion times harder. Only governments could possibly make them. It’s not a valid comparison.
