Y'know it isn't funny to make fun of ICRT

This has turned into a cracking thread. Maybe we can merge it with the other 28.

Ditto!
This has turned into a cracking thread. Maybe we can merge it with the other 28.
WTF does “cracking” mean?

Is this some kind of code language?

You really need to watch Wallace and Grommit, TC. Your ignorance is woeful!

FYI, the petition is now up to 697 signatures.

And a fat lot of good THAT did! Face it – they simply aren’t interested in the slightest. They’re HAPPY being a shitty station.
Fuck me, even Burt Lancaster signed the petition and STILL they didn’t listen.

Yes, but we might as well be glorious while ineffectual.

I’m with Truant - I think we should merge this thread with at least this thread and and and and and and so we can have a

GARGANTUAN ICRT SUCKS THREAD
.

I mean I know there are dozens more, but IMHO these are the really representative ones.

By the way, I just Googled “ICRT” and “pathetic” and got 262 hits.
They’re not all relevant.
But still.

ICRT’s target market:

middle to upper middle class 15~25 year old Taiwanese who wants to be a bit more international, probably has or wants to study overseas.

Okay, I admit it. “Dozens” of threads was a pretty ridiculous estimate on my part. Search “ICRT” and you’ll find that there are actually over 200 Forumosa threads that make reference to ICRT in some way shape or form. Weed through them if you like, and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed – there are plenty of entertaining comments. Far more entertaining then, well, you know.

Burt Lancaster says this is a cracking good idea!

Of course he died 12 years ago…but I always agree with the Burt-Man!
Especially because of this film.

Hey! If someone wants to put together a protest…I’ll show up (ok ok ok…I’ll also help organize and help write the comedy for), but I’m only doing this to promote/get an open mic for comedy started up at Bliss. (starts Thurs. Aug 31 at 10 pm)

[Help me I've been hypnotized!

我也要歡迎你們臺灣人來參加(或只看) ICTIT 說笑話的開放麥克風…
一般來說我們只用英文說但是對我(的笑話)來說會聽得懂一點中文比較好…(不好?)

其實希望有一個(多)台灣人敢來給我們聽笑話…maybe you could try “Take my 太太…PLEASE!”

What? Just like the Taiwanese style Italian restaiurants or Steak Houses here? Come on ralphy, you can do better than that.

Ralphy - I suggest you go to the UK or the US and rummage through the plethora of radio stations targetted at all the different ethnic minorities in those countries. The BBC has stations broadcasting in different languages but the overall target audience is less than 3% of the population. Time, money and effort are put into making these stations work and sound good and actually address the needs of these communities.
OK, so the BBC is government owned but there are privately run, commercial operations that find away to make money AND serve the communities they claim to represent.

So why does Taiwan need to be so different?
In the UK, “ethnic communities” are allowed to register their own stations and apply for a licence. We are not allowed to do this here - it is very difficult to apply for a licence - no, impossible to apply for a licence.

Taiwan moans and groans that it is not part of the international community but it doesn’t make itself any more popular by treating its foreign resident like shit.

It makes me feel better though.

99.99% of the audience are probably too thick to know any better.

Anyway, I suppose advertisers driving the radio station is nothing new. It’s the same with everything.
Its the same with music - the companies that produce it are telling us what we should listen too, not what we actually like. We should listen too crappy talentless pop music that is cheap to produce but which people will buy because their friends buy it and because their friends buy it they don’t want to be left out of the loop and look uncool. Bunch of sheep.
What a tacky, pointless world we live in. You can’t tell me we can do nothing about it - someone must care - someone?

Is she hot??

Isn’t that a bit harsh? Apathetic or indifferent maybe, but I don’t think we get treated like shit…

Bismark - the amount of things foreign residents can do in Taiwan is seriously restricted. Take applying for a credit card for example, or buying a mobile phone.
I’m not talking about the residents here, I’m talking about government policies. In the UK, I’m sure that a taiwanese person applying for either of the above (especially a phone line) will be accepted provided they can prove they have a reasonable income.

In Taiwan, it’s nothing short of hell.

You know, that’s actually a very good point. Come to think of it, I use a IF card cel phone 'cos I don’t like the idea of someone signing for a contract for me, my electricity and cable are on the owner of the partments name and my ADSL is on my SO’s name…

But, I would rather say they treat us like children (in that a citizen aka “responsible adult” needs to sign for everything on our behalf) rather than like shit. But that’s just semantics. Your point is still valid.

No, actually I think your point is more valid than mine - like children is perhaps more appropriate.

This actually started a discussion with my SO over why I can’t even buy my own damn scooter other than cash… She’s actually not even aware of these things. I wonder how many average Taiwanese actually realise to what extent we’re limited here as foreigners…

The average Taiwanese has never thought about whether foreigners can buy scooters on credit. And they don’t care. Why should they?

If the KMT could have done things their way, they would have gotten rid of all the pesky foreigners just like the CCP did. But because they needed American help, they were forced to allow some in. Since they didn’t want us here to begin with, they made it as difficult as possible for us to stay here. Old habits die hard.

Also, many of the restrictions we don’t like were enacted to control migrant workers. If the first world foreign community doesn’t like the way we are treated, it should do more for migrant workers. Our treatment is directly linked to theirs.

This is laughable considering the crap that gets thrown at the Taiwanese on here. I’m merely doing the same thing but back at the offenders. The difference is a lot of you are incredible insecure and I suspect have a lot of the same thoughts about yourselves. If you think you’re doing an honorable job over here why do you care what I think?
Obviously, PPE has never heard the aphorism that when you point your finger at someone, three more point back at you.

I’ve never seen a post where that was truer than the one above…

Thanks for doing such an honorable job, PPE. Your insecurity shines through yet again.

You rock my world.

I think ICRT should get to keep it’s name, but it should have to stand for Infantile Chinglish Radio Taiwan. The only thing that’s international about it is the number of places Joseph Lin “has grown up”. :unamused:
