The lions had attacked before the video started. I wonder what caused the initial attack, why the trainers remained in the ring after it happened–no way they could abandon the field to the animals and maintain their future control effectively?–if they had been prodding the lions before the attack, if a different circus would have handled such a situation differently, etc. in other words how much of this was specific to this circus, and how much simply to the questionable practice of training fierce wild animals to perform for the benefit of humans.
