Youbike got stolen, what to do now?

Update:

Just went out to get breakfast before going to the police station when I thought I’d try to use my youcard to see if my bike had been returned. I got a 6 error code meaning the balance on my card wasn’t sufficient to pay the usage fee from the last rental, which I can only assume means the bike was returned last night.

What do I do now? Still proceed with reporting it as stolen? I’ve already sent an email to Youbike. Or just add some cash to my youcard and suck up the fee from the last rental?

Thats shitty . Happened to my friend. But she calle right away and told them to send aworker. They sill charged her for the hours it was “rented”.

I wonder, can this type of owing them 9000 affect your credit somehow? I wouldnt pay either. One would think their bikes have ID #s but to be fair problems should be reported asap. Them looking through acity for a lost bike doesn’t seem reasonable either.

Thank you!

So it was taken last night, and returned this morning. Total charge is NT555. Should I just suck it up, or?

Bitch to customer service until they relent and give you your money back.

Well since you left it sitting around unlocked . . . I guess unless you have access video footage of the thief or a police report (in which case follow Marco’s approach!), perhaps just view this as a pricey lesson learned? I’d say that’s better than being locked out of youbike for life a la @Steve4nLanguage . . .

Yeah I guess it’s worth a try complaining to customer service. On the Youbike 1.0 app is there any way to change it to English? My Youbike 2.0 app is in English, but not the 1.0 app, and unfortunately it was a 1.0 bike that was taken,

Suck it up and be glad that it was returned and not thrown into a ditch, costing you NT$9,000.

Streets are filled with security cameras.

From Youbike website:

the Police report in Chinese is called 受(處)理案件證明單

Depends. Is a sense of justice worth $18 USD or so to you. Personally, I’d just let it go. The aggravation of filing a report and pursuing it with probably zero chance of the offending party getting caught and prosecuted isn’t worth it.

Ok, so I’ll just top up my card and pay for it. No need to file a police report or anything then?

I don’t know. In terms of getting justice, I’d say no. But if the Youbike that was returned was damaged or something else happened, I can’t advise about that.

From Google translation:

Li suspected that the silver bicycle was his own, but the police wondered "he Why do you want to switch to YouBike?” Suspected that he was riding a donkey to find a horse, and saw that the expensive YouBike was unlocked, so he started the theft.

What a great expression!

Don’t you need to use the same Easycard to return the bike?

The whole system seems like a scam. I’ve never used one of these bikes, but the fees are ridiculous! Less than one day of use costs 555元?!?! You could rent a scooter for a week for that price (where I live).

If they charge this much and take punitive actions (requiring payment of 9 bags) based on the colour of a light, it doesn’t make much sense to rent from them.

I guess not. I just topped up my card and accepted the NT555 fee. Got another youbike, returned it. Seems to be working just fine.

I commonly get a zero charge or $5 and usually no more than $15 going place to place around Taipei.

Convenient fun.

Then that makes sense. I guess city life is different. I’m speaking from ignorance, but my “city” has these kind of bikes too. It’s just that they are few and far between. You Northerners have convenient transportation.

:tumble:

However, there are still a few too many complaints (e.g. inconsistent customer service and issues with locks) for me to feel comfortable using them. Also, what if all the spots are full at your destination?
