Taipei can hardly walk a block without bumping into youbike spot.
Yeah other cities not so great I have tried and it generally not very convenient.

Yikes. I returned a bike and it failed and I was only charged NT300 the next time I tried to rent a bike (5 years later?). The number I registered with the card was not a number I’ve ever known and the only way to unlock the card is to give them the phone number. I have no idea whose phone number I used for that card. I’m annoyed because I’ve only ever used one EasyCard in all the years of being in TW. Ate the NT$300 charge and got a separate card for YouBike use. So it goes
For me it showed lock successful. Then when I tried to unlock it said failure. Afterwards screen didn’t Switch back on…
The service guy had some combination and specitcard to restart… I didn’t care about the 20 yuan charge. Got told I can go to a service station for refund…
555 for a stolen one I would deem myself lucky. But what an asshllle to not return it after riding when borrowing it (which would be bad enough)
Well that was a nice turn of events.
I simply emailed the Youbike service email on the night the bike had been taken explaining what happened and saying it was probably my fault as I hadn’t locked it. Didn’t go to the police station or attach any kind of evidence.
The next morning, after reading a helpful reply here, I went through the Youbike app to discover that in the end the bike had been returned in the early morning, and with a pretty hefty NT555 fee. I simply emailed Youbike again saying I discovered it had been returned and asked if I could get a refund.
They responded and asked for my card number. Gave it to them, and they gave me a refund. No other questions, no requests for evidence. Pretty smooth experience overall.
“service-taipei@youbike.com.tw” also gave me a nice reply when I had the #2 error.
Even though I waited for like a month to contact them, I said I had returned the youbike normally back then so what’s wrong? I don’t know if the bike can be found as returned in the system or whatever but I like not having a dreadful 9000NTD fine looming from a couple months away.
My friends had a joke that if you’re forgiven for a parking ticket you should put it in a frame or something and keep it forever. This feels kinda the same to me. Is it justified? Is Taiwan nicer?
Does youbike block your account after some time if the phone number isn’t active anymore? I tried to rent a youbike today and it says card locked. Of course I don’t know my member ID or password (is the phone number your member ID?).
Cannot login that way. Tried to register with the same card but says card is registered. The card information on the terminal gives card is already registered…
Well I just bought another easycard and registered again…kinda annoying.
I definitely returned the bike just fine the last time… I think it can only be related to phone number inactive…
Yes , your phone number is your member ID (Can not be modified)

I had a similar problem with a Taiwan mobile SIM card that I lost when I was traveling , so I bought a new SIM card (new phone number)
You can login with your Old phone number and then delete the Easycard (Member Information Management>> Setting card>> and then is going to show the following notice:)

then login with your New phone number (New member ID)and add the Easycard (You can add many Easycards with the same phone number)
Or also You can contact customer service

Okay, well without password cannot login… And password recovery is to old phone of course. Which was my airport arrival SIM card
Similar. Rented youbike with CC. Locked it and unlocked it, though it gave message of failure to unlock (even though it did unlock). Returned it soon after and walked away without any further steps (re ting on CC you don’t need to reswipe).
About a couple hours later I get a notification that the bike never registered as returned. The app said it was also not returned.
I called right away to report the issue and they said they would have someone check it out. They also said there was a bike returned but locked and I would continue to be charged until returned.
Two days later and still no reply. Then out of nowhere a charge of 1500.
I then received a call saying they had the bike in repair shop and now fixed, with charge being refunded.
Long story short. if ever renting a youbike and locking it, if it says failure when unlocking (but still unlocked), be attentive when you return it. Make sure it actually says return successful, otherwise you’ll be charged longer. Happened to other people I know also.
After going to a Farmers Market today my Youbike (2.0 version) was gone (and I’m absolutely sure I locked it via QR code).
There was another bike (Youbike 2.0 also) parked just next to where mine used to be but I’m sure it wasn’t mine (it asked for an IC card to be unlocked). So I thought OK well, lets call an Uber and while on it, call Youbike to report it as stolen. Oddly once doing so they asked me to go back and confirm its really not mine… luckily you can ask Uber for a new destination any time…
Arriving back there and with the Operator on the phone and telling her the bike number she said: “Thats not your bike!” - Oh great, tell me something new. I was really sure cause the seat was much lower… went to the police and faxed the police report to Youbike. In the meantime I got a 35 NT$ charge and app notification that the bike was returned. Not sure why Youbike still has the balls to charge me even if the bike was reported as lost / stolen?! After a short call they said “OK, we’ll refund you the 10 NT$ from the time you reported it”. Good.
Long story short. As I’m not sure this is a bug (potentially one can unlock a QR code locked Youbike with any other registered IC card?) I’ll now always take my own little bike-lock with me for any Youbike roundtrips I do from my home… Could also be that the lock was simply loose, but again I’m 100% sure it was locked.
That’s wack.
Sometimes the lock isn’t pushed in all the way and doesn’t fully lock. Even when you think you locked it, if you tug it it would come out.
I’d recommend that you pull on the wire after locking to really make sure it’s locked.
You definitely cannot unlock someone else’s youbike. Maybe not pushed in fully
yeah, I will pull the rope in the future even if there’s a message “locked successfully”
If you’ve locked it properly (with the pin pushed all the way in), the screen will show “Successfully locked.”
I don’t trust this anymore. I’ll pull the chain to make sure… ![]()
