"Foreign wolf teachers"

1 dollar gets you 10 that the media will emphasize the “American” part of this Taiwanese-American pederast, and completely ignore the “Taiwanese” part.

Just like people in this thread. Jeesh. The media knows what people want and the media is in the business to sell.

Thanks for the update. We already have a Wesley Lu thread btw.

This South Korean professor has been sentenced to 14 months in jail and ordered to pay NT$800,000 in damages for sexual harassment committed at NCCU from March to May of 2017, a month before this thread started. https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/3830753

Foreign and local teacher’s in Taiwan can go through some fairly rigorous checks, Police record check from their own country or/and Taiwan. Health checks including for STDs, Must have a real degree checked by MOE (before they rarely checked), often some sort of TESOL certificate…After that most if not all big chain schools constantly monitor classrooms through CCTV. I guess the CCTCV is also for insurance reasons. Things are way better than in the old days in this regard. Most of the pervs are in places like Cambodia , Vietnam etc. Taiwan would not attract them , wages are not that high, and vetting is done. They occasionally catch one here but it’s way more secure than most countries. Korea I never knew had this or perhaps has this problem until this thread.

The “foreign wolf teacher” from Korea has apparently left the country without serving time:

Let’s keep this in perspective because the Taiwanese wolf teachers exponentially outweigh the foreign wolf teachers.

Even the female Taiwanese wolf teachers seem to be off the scale when you see a few caught then how many are there really?

Is there any data on local Taiwan wolf teachers?

Even if there is data, a huge percentage of “Taiwan wolf teacher” is taken care of locally and never reported publicly. Period.

It’s almost probably more common than not common, from the perspective that most every school has some and most every family is aware of it.

They blame immigration here but not the regulators or the MOL/MOE who are the ones in charge upholding labor standards? This is where all the corruption is occurring. It’s an open secret that buxiban owners often pay bribes to regulators to avoid scrutiny over their illegal labor practices.

I guess due to societal norms it would be easier for female sex predators go under the radar.
For example a female teacher having a seven year old child sitting on their lap would not generally raise an eyebrow. However , if a foreign male teacher or let’s just say any male teacher was doing that; would it be viewed the same ? How about hugging? Would male teachers hugging kids be seen the same as female teachers?
