I’d love to engage you in a spirited discussion, however I need you to translate your comments into English.

Ask @ironlady about frivolous lawsuits. She got jacked because some Taiwanese said that she was running an illegal translation business out of her home, which was proven later that she didn’t, hadn’t and wasn’t!
Found @ironlady posting.
The police can show up and search your premises on one measly anonymous tip. Happened to me in 2002. It wasn’t for a drug tip, it was for a “she’s running an illegal office” tip (if you can believe that). The cops were pretty embarassed when I opened the door with my hair not yet combed and it was obvious that it was an apartment, not a translation company premises, but I made them come in and search everything to ensure that no one could say there was a miniature Berlitz underneath the dirty la…
But is there even a law against false accusations in Taiwan?
Of course there is. But just go on and try to prove that the person who said these things actually knew it wasn’t true. Things get very muddy real fast.
Or can people pretty much say whatever they want, and get people in trouble?
You need to remember that if the police didn’t find any drugs on the premises, Jello and his wife would not be in trouble. The police searching your house is an inconv…
And don’t forget about how back in the day that the police would detain every single person from a nightclub and transport them down to the station and force them to give a urine sample to check for illegal drug use! No rights to due process here!
Ok, this happened Sunday and it may be in the paper today. I’ll try to recount as best I can recall.
The Second Floor (resurrected @live location)
was raided by the police, at NOON yesterday.
All the patrons (300+) were corralled together, first on site, and observed for signs of amphetimine use. Then, all 300 were loaded into police buses, and taken to the police station and made to give urine samples (of which some were lost and those had to retake the exam).
Supposedly, the DJ in town fro…

So, what’s going on now. It’s election time and the legislative candidates actually approach is in the night market’s and stuff. They ask, did you get your citizenship yet? Can you vote.
Their English is about as good as my Chinese but these seem to not quite get the concept when I try to explain that we foreigners have to give up our own of citizenship yet our other family members and children can pick up passports left and right.
Of course there’s no time to launch into a lesson, not that I could anyway with my language abilities.
I think that if we had an organization like the spouses support Network we used to have, the time is right for the spouses of citizens to finally get the citizenship they should have.
Remember, not too long ago we couldn’t get a full term driver’s licence, the longer term visas or even the right to work while on a spouse sponsored visa. All those reforms were made to strengthen the family.
After all the S**@t we were put through, the idea of this special foreigner who was either rich or just a media star felt like a kick in the gut.
I’m living in a hillbilly town and in addition to picking up side jobs, my job is to take care of the kids while the spouse commutes. This is how we are rewarded?
Ok, rant over .
Is there any foreigner who is well versed in Chinese and the law as the guy who was the former leader of our group in addition to being the legal forum moderate of this group was. He used spend hours lobbying the legislature for us as well as creating photocopy ready legal appeal forms that helped us win administrative appeals against the restrictive laws we faced then.
I’m interested in joining such a group, please PM me if you are.
Who remembers this? I do. I was one of the many people who benefitted from his appeals process.
Foreigner wins driver's license battle - Taipei Times
The problem is, a lot of these fights, especially as one person cost money, time, effort, things a lot of people don’t have. I got lucky to win my battles like the APT battle on guarantors.
The Ubike one was easy as it seemed to unite everyone without having a centralised leadership.
Perhaps we can found an NGO for ourselves? I have the resources start some of the work. This would put a lot of organisation into our efforts.

If it is on Facebook plenty of people will be excluded. Facebook won’t let you see content without having an account.

Is this a facebook group posting pictures and getting likes and comments or an actual NGO with offices and staff?

It seems they have some relation with forward taiwan, or do they just introduced FWT’s attempt?
You may directly ask it them and may do something together.
I agree an NGO may be the best way forward.

Seems like a lot of people don’t like the double standard that Taiwanese can have dual citizenship, especially from America. Why don’t we all just petition the US government to stop giving it to them to make it fair? We can try to get 10,000 signatures? That way no more complaints.

Because taking things down doesn’t help anyone. It goes against our principles of equality. Receiving the Taiwanese with hostility doesn’t make for a good example. Also, I’d rather have both countries OPEN over closed.

If it is, it went over my head.
Wasn’t sarcasm, though I see how it may have been perceived that way

Joined “Becoming Taiwanese”. We are a family, four persons, I wonder how many people can be involved. The number matters probably.
I guess, but in the sense it would be “fair” and “equal”

Sure, reciprocity is fair indeed. But I would much rather both be open than both be closed. Plus, the US is only one of many, we may not hear from the others as frequently due to language and social circle bias, but I know plenty.
