Just download the iTunes software – and import your current song into iTunes.
From there you can download them to your iPod.
There is no need to buy any music from Apple.
If you have a new CD, you can use iTunes to rip it directly. Only make sure that you save them as MP3’s (the default is AAC, which is an Apple format) to be able to play them outside of Apple’s little planet.
