If I’m paying 500 for a cup of coffee, I also want it served to me at my comfortable cushioned seat in a relaxing atmosphere, with soft music in the background and no convenience store theme music playing every time someone enters. I also require a pleasant view out the window as I enjoy my premium beverage, preferably a seascape.

Sorry Family Mart, but I’ll still support your $55 lattes, which I do like.

Theres been a huge trend in Taiwan for coffee shops to serve more and more exclusive and expensive coffee. I guess it will burn out within a couple of years.

Honestly if a was paying 500NT for a coffee, I would want the money going back to some local growers not some big national chain like Family Mart.

Agreed

I won’t even pay 500NT for a bottle of wine

Is that why your date left early?

The problem with trends in taiwan is they come and go in a big way. They are either everywhere or nowhere. MTV and disco used to be huge in taiwan. Try finding it now.

I don’t tend to go out with girls that are just in it for the money. Not that there’s anything wrong with that

It did get Family Mart some media attention didn’t it. So I suppose mission accomplished?

The Taiwan News report said that this outrageous price is actually for Gukeng Coffee, grown in Yunlin. So I guess this is now your move.

Still, good luck finding some drinkable wine for that price.

EDIT: That was quick @TT! Were you looking for the same thing?

I buy stuff on sale, aim for up to 400NT. If the second glass is still bad, I use it for cooking

Helps that I don’t drink a lot of wine. Mostly I drink beer and whiskey, just like to have a bottle of wine around if the mood strikes me or I’m having pasta

Also helps that I didn’t grow up in a wine culture, so my palate here is unrefined…

Basically I’ll grab a bottle if the discount is good and the reviews are ok. Costco, Carrefour, PX Mart sometimes have good deals

Costco 100% have very decent bottles under 1k, especially some nice Chianti or interesting whites from Italy.

Given import duties and alcohol tax, very difficult to find something still in the 500$ range that is drinkable.

Had to start drinking more beer since I moved to Asia, otherwise will be bankrupt. Even started drinking whisky (very rarely drank that back home) since grappa here is just unaffordable.

Having a coffee now 90nt at the pingtung coffee park. Enjoying coffee, no ridiculous price and supporting the local community.

Now your move

I guess I’m lucky that my definition of “drinkable” isn’t so particular :man_shrugging:

Thanks, they keep me out and about, not fully my style yet, but will get there slowly.

This is my preferred spot for local beans, brewed by a friendly old guy, steps from Chishang Train Station in Taiwan’s lovely East Rift Valley:

Like your preferred brew, it’s also not NT$500. :slightly_smiling_face:
