✈ Airlines | China Airlines

At 9 hours for a trip to/from Australia, I am quite prepared to endure a few hours sitting upright and save the money. I am not prepared to pay a 50% premium (which can be 100% on some airlines) just to get a bit of extra legroom and recline for a few hours. So far I have been lucky over the past 5 years or so, in that the flights have not been full and I have managed to score an empty seat beside me.

I like their premium economy. For me it’s the sweet spot between affordability and comfort.

It’s nothing like business class but more like what everybody would like economy to be

I haven’t tried their premium economy so I can’t speak about that, but I can tell you what their economy seats are like.

Low, hard-ass seats built for midgets.

By the end of the flight, your legs will be numb from over-bending and your ass will be numb from supporting the entire weight of your body.

Ok, being that it’s such a long flight I’m going to give premium economy a shot. Thank you all for your input.

Were you on a China Airlines A350? Or some other aircraft?

Whatever they use for their TPE to LAX flights. Although I doubt it matters, because I bet they use the same seats on all aircrafts.

It matters A LOT whether it’s the older densified 777 or the newer A350. The latter generally gets good reviews; the former . . . pack 'em in!

Oh I didn’t realize they installed different seats for different planes.

Airline seat row spacing used to be more when I was a kid. Now it’s like they make them extremely close.

I thought premium economy just means more leg rooms, like exit rows, next to emergency exits, and the like. They charge more for those seats now (when in the past they cost the same).

But it’s not like business class where the seat costs 3x as much as economy.

I’ve been happy on my CI flights to Bali and Australia this year.

Then you need to use seat guru. Some flights have larger seats than others depending on the model and make of aircraft.

Stoicism. Suck it up in cattle class then invest the money you save. Short term discomfort for long term gain.

On long haul, I would pick premium economy minimum for comfort.

Or get the China Trust co branded China Airlines card and build up miles when you are not flying plus adding miles when you do. Then get yourself an upgrade.

Many airlines have the 350s now and they feel almost like premium economy more room for your legs better entertainment systems, if you get an old one it sucks though .

That’s how men get soft.

The partitions between seats in premium economy (arm rests that do not stow away, are a disadvantage when you have small children who nap / sleep better lying down. Much easier to do across mom and dad’s lap without that unmoving armrest.

It’s a very nice aircraft. Airbus really nailed it with this one.

I’ll have a chance to try it on Asiana in early 2024—maybe the last chance to try Asiana before they get gobbled up by Korean Air.

I liked the A380, they have more space in economy than other aircraft. I just don’t think most airlines are operating them anymore.

Depends on the airline and route. That’s the case for US domestic flights, but international it’s generally different seats.

Usually much more than that.

Yep
