It’s going to be broadcast live. I’m surprised the Taipei government is allowing this as a free climb (no safety equipment). I wonder how much wind will be a factor.
I don’t think he’s very likely to die, but my problem with this is that it will otherwise be pretty boring.
The whole thing is also pretty un-Honnold. He’s not particularly known for climbing buildings, and in Free Solo he bailed from his first attempt on El Cap because all the cameras threw him out of his zone and he didn’t feel right. When he eventually went for it, it was unannounced and they had to scramble to get footage after they realized he was up there.
So all the promotion and fanfare around this makes me think he just needs some money. Which is fine, more power to him, great guy. But not a very interesting event.
