I miss the radio we used to listen to: Caroline in the daytime, Luxembourg at night, BBC 1 and 2 and the World Service. You just turned the dial and the whole of Europe would come in through your loudspeaker. Then stay up after midnight and stations from the east coast of the US would fade in. Tune to shortwave if conditions were bad. As a young lad that was how I traveled the world and the reason ended up here in Taiwan (long story).

Shortwave was how we had access to the world, a few hours at a time, in my day.
You will be shocked about the state of shortwave now. Same for mediumwave in Europe.
