How much English does one need to know to work at Google? Skip the stupid beginning part about food and it’s mostly in English.

Cheaper than hiring hardware engineers in the US, we know why they are here. Penny pinching on paying hardware guys so they can blow 1.5 billion on playing Star Craft.

Why is it bad if they are cheaper than US engineers? A huge part of that is due to currency manipulation. Also, Taiwan is not a third world country, there is a lot of competition for engineers. They would go to another company if the pay was not competitive in Taiwan and that’s all that matters. They will be stuck here once we build an R&D ecosystem.

Whos they? The multinational companies?

Well it is good actually, if you are talking about Google’s bottom line
What is bad, if you are an Alphabet shareholder, is all this money thrown away on infantile geek fantasy projects like DeepMind and autonomous vehicles.

Lower labor costs help the bottom line.

Programmers in Taiwan only get paid $2,000 per month?

Taiwan’s raw per-capita GDP is $24,000. That should be roughly equal to income.

That means engineers/programmers in Taiwan don’t make more than the average 究.

Or it was written by Ralph Jennings.

He made a division error. I clicked on his link and it said the average monthly IT salary is 91,212 TWD.

That’s $36,0360 US per year, which is 50% higher than the mean wage in Taiwan.

Probably enough to Google ‘Google’?

Which goes to show how shockingly low Taiwan wages are. I really hope the IT wages catch up. I know a very experienced guy, he only gets 50k or something base but he makes maybe as much again from all these projects that he maintains for clients.
Even then that’s crap money for an IT guy in the West. Maybe he makes more these days I don’t know.

A janitor in the US makes more.

2,000 less per month, not in total, is the way I read it.

That would make more sense.

Journalists shouldn’t be using dangling modifiers though.

This looks promising.

According to the company, operations will begin in 2021, with a research and development center also to be established in the future. Isuzu’s huge investment in eco-friendly automobiles is in line with the Taichung mayor’s goal of diminishing air pollution.
