Anxiety and Depression

I went past a skin clinic the other day and they were advertising injections that make you lose weight. Wonder if it is that.

I swear the lack of untrustworthy people here is going to break me.

Find an anchor, be an anchor. Nice. :bowing:

Totally agree with regular exercise/workout. I also noticed that during the times I miss working out, I’d feel less productive with work/academic stuff. So I really force myself to go back to my routine regardless of the load in work/acads. Productivity is good for me against anxiety.

Alcohol abstinence affects me in a way because I find it hard to focus on working and studying the next day if I drank the previous night.

We have a thread for that!

Whenever you’re ready to get off them. This is what I take for sleep and it’s been a game changer for me. It won’t knock you out like sleeping pills but I’ve found it does help.

L theanine which is also good for anxiety.

magnesium threonate, this one is the one most studied for sleep and helps you relax.

Also a chamomile tea is nice.

I also will take THC for sleep and it’s probably the best thing I take for sleep but it’s obviously not legal in Taiwan. But for some I know it can make their anxiety worse.

I’m not dependent on benzos just yet. I’m really concerned about addiction and the withdraw can kill you. If that’s what he’s dependent on, he needs the doctor’s help on how to taper down and all that.

But I’m really dependent on a sleep aid of some kind to sleep, without it I can’t sleep at a regular and predictable schedule, as sleeping seems to be the last thing I want to do at bedtime, and so if I don’t take sleep aid I won’t sleep at all and the following day will be extremely tired for me. Right now I use benedryl (diphenhydramine) to sleep because that’s the least bad sleep aid I can find right now that isn’t expensive (melatonin doesn’t really work for me unless I took a massive dose). It also helps with environmental allergy as well.

Most people don’t know they’re dependent until they are for benzos.

I’ve been really careful about limiting the use of them. I’ve noticed that even with occasional use throughout the years that I’ve built a tolerance to them. I need a higher dose to feel it’s affects and I’ve noticed it’s not as effective for sleep like before. And I only use them occasionally. I can’t imagine what long term regular use will be like.

I use them very seldom for this reason so I’ve not built up a tolerance yet, but I rather not use them at all if possible. I’m already built up somewhat of a tolerance for benedryl but they don’t really have that serious of a withdraw other than that it’s hard to sleep without them. I heard the withdraw for benzo is worse.

Does anyone know where in Taiwan I can find the first two of these? I’ve asked about magnesium threonate but was told at the two pharmacies they carry something else. Magnesium citrate can be found at Costco, but this helps more as a laxative from what I read!

Bonus!

That might be something for iHerb, despite the recent issues with them? I suppose you could try Watson’s, Cosmed, and so on, but it might end up being more expensive.

I haven’t read about them in a couple of years, but I thought the issue with magnesium supplements was that some of them aren’t really bioavailable (and the laxative effect, as you mentioned). Hence the threonate and citrate salts and so on. I guess you’d want to avoid the ones specifically intended for colon cleansing.

Like me, you might benefit from turning off your screen each night and getting more exercise in the daytime. I sometimes have unavoidable work deadlines as an excuse, but I also have a hard time keeping any kind of regular sleep schedule (going to bed “early”, which I’d count as any time before 3-4 a.m.) for more than several days at a time before it slips later and later. Anyway, goodnight!

Won’t that give you more anxiety? Or perhaps it is therapeutic.

I think it could help, and it could help to feel in control of it.

Does anyone journal? How do you keep other people from touching your shit? Even as an adult sibling and friends try to read it like we are 12. I think it’s the best option but I stopped when someone read it without asking recently.

I have a friend with depression and we encourage each other weekly. I think his situation is worse than mine so I’m doing a bit more of the encouraging. And we take each other’s calls right away (because we both know what it feels like to need to talk to someone). I don’t know why, but it helps your own situation to come to the aid of another person during a difficult morning, day, or whatever for him/her. But of course that’s not why I do it. It’s just something I discovered along the way.

Also, after some months of this (not quite a year yet), I think I have a lot of advice I can give because I’ve been through some difficult moments.

Finally, I am a person of faith. I sometimes wonder if this is something God wants me to do (but I would never push my belief onto another person). I sometimes wonder what the point of going through this difficult time is all about. Maybe it’s so I can eventually help others. Such thinking is biblical, and so I wonder.

O_o

How about to write that in your computer? in a document that only you know?

I took a memoir class got three years. It was great for making sense of and adding clarity to my life. Writing does that kind of thing,

I think because OCD/crazy people logic I want to be able to just burn it??? VS me not knowing how to full proof delete a file forever.

At a college or online? Please link if online.

I don’t like journaling. I feel if I’m writing something it will be read by others no matter what, and if it’s something I don’t want others to know at all, I prefer to not put it on paper at all because unless you made it 100% unreadable with high level 128 bit encryption (and threw the key away) it will be read no matter what. I mean if it was going to be that encrypted might as well not waste any time writing it in the first place.

I mean if it’s for my future self to read I feel my memory is good enough, unless I got alzhimers or something.
