Personally in Kaohsiung the best time of year is winter. 75F and sunny all winter = perfect. but I’m happy that the heat is starting to let up.
I think you are all celebrating a little prematurely. I think in the last ten years summer has not really ended until November or even December. At least not down here. It used to be that October brought the cool nights but it’s been a long time since summer broke that early.

our summer (bay area) by contrast seems to me to have been rather a lot cooler then usual.
Here in Taipei the evenings start to cool off in August and by now are very pleasant. If you biked you’d know.
June and July are the really hot months.

This does not occur in August in central or southern Taiwan, and has not in the last 20 years.

and Tommy, the summer in Taipei was great because it barely rained and we had clear skies daily due to all the typhoons to the north and south of the island. prolonged stretches of puffy white clouds and stars at night.

I love fall though, seemingly every where I go, we have had some really nice days here Taipei! Though its not nearly as bad here as I imagined in terms of heat!

Ya i heard that basically in KTown Cold fronts add up to 30 days of winter and every other day was “not” winter in the 2 season cycle south of the tropic of cancer. North Taiwan has seemingly 2 weeks max (if that) of spring and same for fall?
TW is basically a “summer and not summer” kinda island is what i heard, seems appropriate. Isnt it great to have a nice hiatus from rain though huh (speaking of northerners, as the south had long stretches without the liquid).

Yesterday was the last day of summer and true to form, now I am extra crispy or patriotic, depending how you wanna see it. Went to the beach and now I am red, white and brown all over, red where I forgot to put sunscreen, white where the sun did not reach, brown all exposed areas. Ouch.
This morning started great, though, with a nice strong breeze and 28 degrees. Hopefully we’ll keep the sun and skip the heat in the days to come. Happy Autumm, everyone!
