Barbecue Places in Taipei

He does a few things much better than other things. His chicken and ribs aren’t great (sorry if he’s reading). Stick to his beef brisket and pulled pork… they’re both very good.

Ed’s Diner definitely deserves mention in this thread. It’s the barbecue place I’ve been to the most by far - due in no small part to being easily accessible from the riverside bicycle paths, and what could be better than cycling from Dazhi to Danshui with a stomach full of pulled pork?

(Yet I keep doing it.)

I probably slightly prefer Baba Kevin’s and Bogart’s, but Bogart’s is back of beyond from my perspective.

This is also my go to when I go.

Texas Tom’s is the real deal. (He only does popups, no restaurant.) Baba Kevin’s and Ed’s Diner don’t even seem to me like they are smoked. Mighty Quinn’s is decent. Haven’t tried Bogart’s yet but have heard it’s dry.

You obviously don’t know Americans.

Bogart’s is proper American cue. Thoughts and prayers @jimipresley

+1 for Bogart’s

Was not impressed by his brisket, Kevin does that better, but his burnt ends, chicken, and pork are all Best of Taiwan. And his sides/sauces kill it.

I really enjoyed the ribs. Their sauces are good too. They have an extremely hot one that was even too hot for this fire breathing dragon. I enjoy their 2nd hottest one.

Does Bogarts have fried okra by any chance? That’s something I miss.

I didn’t notice any serious sides. Being from the southeast, I wanted potato salad and baked beans which wasn’t on the menu. We did have sweet hot pickles and beans. Eating at baba Kevin’s recently, the ribs blew us away. Fried okra would be great. My guess is the reason it is good is the owners are on-site.The staff was very attentive and cared about our experience there. BBQ is expensive to do in Taiwan. My husband owned a BBQ joint in Florida many years ago so I am biased in what is good BBQ. Smoke, spice and time.

The trend, Most foreign restaurant label them as authentic with exorbitant prices through barbequing their meat…

Cost of meat here… Expensive… Age meat more expensive… Age meat with different kind of aroma, herbs exponential expensive…

I bet no restaurant here barbequing/ smoked their meat at 12 hours a day.

You been to Bogarts? It’s seriously good

Not yet… Im from the philippines…

Its ridiculously expensive here to eat for a barbeque…

My budget would be a thai barbequing or korean all you can eat under 800 ntd…

Theres still no smoked barbeque here in taiwan… At least 12 hours smoked maintained 110 degress celsius…

Traditionally smoked using bricks or under a soil.

— they come up with that… — per block means 3000 ntd or 5000 ntd for the customer…

Barbequing in the philipines are staple… – means its cheap… You can buy under 100 ntd… Smoked for 12 hours.

We have all you can eat upscale restaurant for a mere 1500 ntd wide selection of cuisine around the world in a 5 star hotel with casino…

Insanely cheap around 10 ntd for a skewer – marinated chicken barbque… At any streets in metro manila.

I miss Lechon!

You should try Bogart’s. It’s not as expensive as you would think. Besides, good chicken inasal and lechon in the Philippines doesn’t come cheap as well, unless you’re going to cook it yourself and have the pig for that lechon.

Also, I think it’s unfair to judge good bbq from a cultural lens. It’s like saying Manila is better than Taipei or vice versa. Each has its own charm. It’s apples and oranges.

Our street bbq are pretty much like the bbq off Taiwan’s night markets, but I would honestly rather eat off Taiwan’s night markets when it comes to street bbq. It’s cleaner. Our family only buys cheap bbq in the Philippines from shop owners we know, otherwise hello hepatitis! Lol.

It is good! They have the best American BBQ in my humble opinion. My husband owned a BBQ joint in Florida for a few years and agreed it was good.

Honestly, Might Quinn’s, despite being Aussie (I think?) passed my palate test, and I grew up on Southern USA BBQ (also lived in NC a while). Baba Kevin’s is okay, but just okay. But their atmosphere is good.

Excellent brisket, sauces, staff, and craft beers. Everything I have had has been excellent. Fire/ice pickles are a must.

Are they still around? Seem to remember both shops shutting down a couple years ago… they’re from NY btw

Quinn’s closed its Renai Circle location a while ago. I looked at their corporate website (actually I was looking up Chili’s, which turned out to be owned by the same “fancy foreign restaurants” holding company here in Taiwan, and I got curious about Quinn’s since its logo was listed on the site) and no locations are listed in Taiwan.

I was surprised they lasted as long as they did. They were EXPENSIVE. Even after slashing their prices by maybe 30% or 40% to compete against the 50NT lunchbox places they were still expensive. NYC pricing just doesn’t cut it in Taiwan.
