Best dealer to sell my Sym Duke and Shoei helmet

So I bought a Sym Duke to commute work. It’s almost brand new, around 2 months old with around 1200km on the clock and up-to-date on servicing.

I also have a Shoei helmet. Since I don’t need either anymore to commute I want to sell them.

Which dealer will give me the fairest price and not try to rip me off?

You’re going to take a 40% hit with any dealer in any country; they have to pay overhead and make a profit. From their perspective, it is objectively fair. From your perspective, by going the dealer route, you are sacrificing money for convenience.

If you want to minimize your losses, you can try posting on Facebook marketplace and/or the classified section on Formosa… but you’re still going to take a 25% hit, and you’re going to have to go to the DMV and do the paperwork yourself in that case.

Unfortunately, buying brand new is almost always a horrible investment, unless you plan to own it for the life of the vehicle. I made the same mistake – most of us do. Live and learn.

It’s not about making an investment, it’s that I don’t need the scooter, but I do need the money.

I just want a fair price for it.

The market price is going to be -40% what you paid through a dealer or -25% through private sale.

If you don’t think it’s fair, you can keep it. It is what it is.

That’s not answering my question about which dealer you’d recommend.

You asked which dealer would give you a fair price; I answered that there is a market price they all follow, and that if you want to maximize your profit, you will sell it privately. If it’s about the price, no recommendation will be better than the next. If it’s about user experience, use Google Maps and find the highest rated store. You haven’t even indicated where you are. Help yourself.

Ok…

You buy brand new for the warranty and service. If you buy a used vehicle, even one that’s relatively new, the sale is as is, unless the warranty can be transferred.

Hence the hit. Because something major could be major cost to fix, so it’s fair that you take a hit for selling anything.

Yes, obviously I’m not expecting full market value for it. Also, the warranty should still carry over to the new owner.

What I’m asking is if there’s a dealer, in Taipei, that buys and sells second hand scooter who won’t try to low ball me just because I’m a foreigner.

I mean I don’t know but in general you will get less value out of a dealer, it’s just the way it is. They gotta make a profit and offer warranty to whoever they sell it to, as well as possibly fix whatever damage that might have happened.

So 40% hit is probably something you should expect.

Ok, but again, which dealer in the greater Taipei area?

what about where you bought it? do they do used?

Yes, but I’m just worried about being low balled.

My scooter is worth over 50k on the open market, so I’d expect 40 to 45k from a dealer.

They’ll definitely low ball you. haggle. you’ll probably have to walk away

tell them you’ll throw in the helmet, “for free”
ofc pricing it in as best as possible

Ok, are there any dealers that won’t low ball me so I don’t have to haggle?

There’s a little haggle room with most pricing.

Say someone offers 25,000 for your bike, you could probably counter that with 30,000.

But if you want to sell it for 45,000, be prepared to walk away, and probably do this a lot too.

Or sell it to an individual for 45,000 and see if someone will take it.

if you see them selling for 50k , a dealer isnt offering you 45k … and they will just let you walk away…

take it where you bought it and see what they say. at least you’ll get an idea. after that you can facebook it if necessary.

Maybe someone on here will buy it

yeah I’d expect 30, 35k at best. but I don’t know know the market

Ok, I’ll try FB and forumosa. I’ll take some pics and post online tomorrow.

I think 50k is a reasonable price for it, but I don’t know how many people will pay that.
