Today venture to the “sticks”, all the way in Tucheng, New Taipei.
Impressed. All good stuff. Recommended even though the journey might be long for some. But a small adventure every now and then is in order.

Tried Salto for the first time today. So very very good. Love tomato sauce and theirs hit the spot. Spicy sausage was delightful.
Pizza3 near Salto it’s also good option near the area. Already recommend in here
I especially like their crust—it’s light and delicious, almost like the anti-Pizza Hut. ![]()

Yes and Pizza^3 has better beer
I agree. It was good good. Lovely place to chill too.
And the prices of salto r very compelling
Why oh why are so many of the interesting restaurants so far away from Danshui?! I think of the places commonly listed in this thread, Solo (beside Yuanshan MRT Station) may be the closest for me, and that’s about 45 minutes total on transit.
In Danshui area, Oro Pizzeria is very good, but also very expensive (around NTD$800 for a pizza that’s biggish, but not too big, for one). They’ve recently moved to the new location below that looks like more of a business and less of a hobby (but also losing a nice view of the harbor and waterfront), so maybe their hours will be more regular. Cash only, which is surprising in a place that costs so much.
Well out beyond Danshui, and really stretching it for this thread’s topic even if we’re considering it New Taipei, there’s Pizza Olmo near Shimen. Twenty years ago it’d probably have ranked as fantastic. These days, eh, nothing special, but if you’re hankering for decent pizza on the north coast, it’s a nice place to stop. I’ll stop here once in a while when cycling, but I prefer the next door zongzi places at such times, mainly because those are more reasonably sized for a mid-ride meal.
Thanks for that! I’m in the area once a week so this is very nice.
Maybe you could try Pizza Hut or Saizeriya? ![]()
I like the spicy sausage (I think they call it salami- I say “香腸‘’ when ordering on the phone and am always corrected by them saying"salami”). They also have spicy olive oil, which I like to use on the side for my pizza.
Nah. I’m far too boringly middle-aged, and no longer abuse substances anywhere near enough for either of those to seem like a good idea.
The two passable pizza-by-the-slice places in Danshui shut down.
I keep looking at these places listed above, and seeing if they’re close to a riverside cycling path, but it mostly doesn’t seem that way. Solo’s convenient on a bike; Amore’s not bad. I’m not sure about Cura: as the crow flies, it’s very close to the riverside, but getting in and out of that area on a bicycle intimidates me. Pizza Lab, at Dadaocheng Wharf, is not of a quality I’d recommend, but the location is great and I’ve had a fair number of enjoyable sunset pizza dinners there.
What about Pizza Has a Face, also near Dadaocheng? Its New York style pizzas and array of beers may or may not please you—but it has its fans.

Olmo looks very underwhelming from the pics, Oro looks strange… And way too pricey for TW standards. A good pizza here max can cost 500, more it’s a gimmick and rarely have good taste in my experience.
Oh, I’m certainly not recommending a trip to the north coast to go to Olmo. But if you’re in the area, it’s fine. Oro I do like a lot, but that price point hurts.
Thanks - it’s convenient to the cycling paths, anyway. I’d heard the name before but for some reason hadn’t bookmarked it on Google Maps.
Call and make sure Pizza Has a Face is open before making a trip.
Damn have these guys fallen into this trap too? ![]()

A couple instances of frustration, given a bike ride is involved, I think its best to call ahead just to be sure.
had a similar mishap with Bianca Pizza in Banqiao. Really wanted to try, checked in FB, Maps and IG if open the day I wanted to go. They showed open, went there well after opening time, closed. Not a soul in sight…
Not really hospitality…
Andrea Dalla pizza chef is supposedly a candidate for some Best Pizza Chef in the World 2024 competition. But I guess isn’t everyone. It’s probably one of those things that if you show up then you’re a candidate
