Best places to live if you work in Taipei but want to go home to peace and quiet?

muzha is nice, the neighborhoods near the zoo are quiet and green and still close to the center.

The girl with big guns gave you advice I completely agree with. Also consider the lack of restaurants and delivery options for food. Where will you work?

I is moving there next month. It’s very quiet if you’re off the main roads.

yeah likewise, not the cheapest place to live but way nicer day to day life than most places in taipei

Tones of quiet places. With good apartments and cheaper rent. Not all have good transport. The north part ot bali is beautiful.

This response hits it on the head and I should have been more clear from the start. I don’t want to live near many restaurants, I don’t want delivery options for food. I want to be away from people, but close enough that I can still commute to Taipei City for work and not be too put out if I want to socialise. I know everyone loves Taipei because it’s so “convenient”, but I don’t even use a smartphone. If at all possible, I don’t want to be surrounded by people who use smartphones all the time.

I know if I rent a flat in a “convenient” area, I’ll soon become complacent and it will be difficult for me to go back to life without that level of convenience. But I know that I’m more happy and fulfilled when I don’t have all of that. That’s why I feel like going straight from a rural part of London’s outskirts, a bus ride away from restaurants and a station, to somewhere similar in/around Taipei would be ideal, though preferably a bit closer to a station than where I am now.

How about any of the towns in Yilan (Yilan proper, Luodong, Toucheng, Jiaoxi)? You can take the bus (客運) to Taipei main station/Shi zhengfu 市政府/Nangang in 45min-1hr.

I live in Xizhi at the foot of a mountain. 45 minutes commute door to door. But this involves a quick scooter commute to train station, 10-minute train ride, then the MRT. If I walk or take a u bike to the train station, add about 5 minutes to that.

I often cycle up the mountain. Very nice route. 30-40 minutes of up and down. Here’s the view from my balcony.

But I like our place in Hualien much better. From our bedroom window right now.

There are many quiet communities at the foot of or in mountains in Taipei and NTC. many of them are non tourist/business areas, so people you see there are mostly residents, except for nearby major trial heads where you may see many hikers on weekends. They could be far from MRT, though buses are often convenient enough.

Yilan is commuter distance, just about. That would be my top choice as it is very quiet overall , very green and few tall buildings. Cheap too. I don’t go to the office everyday so thinking of taking the plunge. Buses run often into Taipei . You can even live in your own house in Yilan. If you like tinkering with stuff…

There’s some nice places along the railway too. I saw some nice apartments for rent in shanjia, pretty much surrounded by trees. It looked peaceful as hell. wasn’t even far from the train station,
and not far from taipei either.

Go to 591 and do a search in new taipei city and see if anything inspires you.
