Birthday gift ideas for my girlfriend

Hi,

Does anyone have any good gift ideas for my girlfriend? It is her birthday in a couple of weeks and I have no idea what junk I can buy her in Taiwan.

I am looking to spend around $1000NT.

Good suggestions that worked for you in the past would be great.

Peace and much love

She a local? In that case a cake, no present. In fact, usually it’s the birthday gal or boy who is expected to provide the cake for his or her friends. You don’t need to get her a present. It’s not the way things are done.

You should be able to get a fairly nice necklace or bracelet (or earrings) from a department store for a thousand.

Even though most people wouldn’t do it, the person in question obviously would appreciate your gift…

Just put the 1000 NT in a red envelope and hand it to her saying Happy Birthday. Since you seem to have no idea what she would like for a present, that’s the best thing to do with the money before you waste it on some junk, as you say.

Try buying her a card or a stuffed animal and a nice gondola ride up the mountain for some tea.

In this weather???

Lol. Took the words right out of my mouth. Cold air + Rain = No thank you.

But seriously? Is it like that here? Maybe that’s the reason why I never see gift shops here… Wouldn’t the girl be insulted if you give her money? I mean, Chinese New Year still a bit far right?)

Jewelry is a shitty idea if she is particular about her appearance or if you have no idea what she likes. Then she’ll probably end up getting something she doesn’t like, but will still have to pretend to like and wear because it was a present from her boyfriend.

Well, in the dramas, they always book a whole restaurant. haha, but if that’s not under 1000nt, then I would suggest a matching phone charm, matching shirts, all these couple items - like a matching necklace. That way, it doesn’t matter if it’s not her taste, the whole point is that you two are wearing it proudly. It might sound cliche, but it works. What’s your age range by the way?

  That brings back memories, my BF painted, ‘I’m his’ and I’m hers t-shirts for my B’day once. I was maybe 19…but that was the only day we ever wore those tees, yet to his credit, he did them himself so it wasn’t THAT bad  . Just plain kitschy.

Ahhh, my boyfriend’s done that!!! We both have these ‘True Love’ t-shirts. I have to admit, I’ll avoid wearing it if I know he is

Somehow, it’s just embarrassing…

I was once given sequinned red plastic clear-heeled shoes. He was so upset that I laughed and rarely wore them, and so upset that I called them stripper shoes… it actually came up when we broke up a few years later O.O;

I did/do feel bad about it, but… seriously???

Also, if you decide to buy her some really slutty lingerie, MAKE DAMN SURE it isn’t two sizes too small. That doesn’t go down too well in my personal experience.

ad another zero to that. can’t buy shit for 1000 NT

What’s the point in giving something you want her to take off anyways :ponder:

Unless you steal peeks at the actual labels in her clothing/measure her with a tape measure while she’s asleep/have a way of making sure that what you buy will fit her perfectly, don’t buy form-fitting clothes either.

If it’s a size too small, like the mistake sandman made, she’ll be mortified that she’s “too fat” to fit in what you got her. That she was such a svelte waif in your mind, but in reality she’s some kind of hippopotamus that will never manage to squeeze into the nice frock you bought her.

If it’s a size too big, she’ll be outraged that you think of her as such a fattie. Like, “WTF? Do you think I’m a hippopotamus or something?!?!?!”

The worst present I’ve ever received was a two-pack of ridiculously over-sized, frumpy sleepshirts from an ex-boyfriend’s mother on my birthday.

Sure beats the jumbo-sized bottle of talcum powder I received from an ex-gf’s mother for Christmas. My mind still boggles over that one.

1000 nt sure doesnt go far these days tho. May be enough to spring for a birthday dinner at the MOdern Toilet in Hsimen and thats bout it (and thats if you dont order all the “crap” there is to order there ) .

That said, if she likes dolfins for example a nice pair of dolfin earrings may work? That AND the dinner, dont forget the dinner…she wont either way.

The best quality foot cream/oil that 1,000NTD can buy. You can then discuss how and by whom it should be applied. I hope that you have a separate budget for dinner and for ang bao.

Maybe he selfishly gave them to you for his own enjoyment?

I’ve never EVER heard that buying a gift for the birthday guy/gal is unnecessary here in Taiwan.
Either way you could always just go the romantic route and prepare her a nice candle light dinner.
I don’t care what country you’re from…ladies like that kind of stuff…excluding gold diggers of course.
