Buckwheat (The grain, not the person)

Anyone eat buckwheat salads? With lettuce or other greens with whole buckwheat

I eat cooked buckwheat, usually in combination with quinoa and millet. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find in Taipei and has been missing from shelves for about a year, maybe longer. The only kind I’ve seen sold here is Dr. Ko’s organic at Sogo and City Super. Both places have repeatedly told me that it’s out of stick and to check back in a few months, but it hasn’t yet reappeared, so I’ve been ordering from iHerb.

Does anyone know where it’s available in Taipei?

Not a fan of buckwheat flour, in pancakes anyway. An odd, off putting aftertaste.

I hope whole buckwheats are better!

Can make cereal grain salad with pearl barley and oat groats, both found at RTmart (at least in the past). Don’t think I’ve used buckwheat.
Chickpea stew with a little pearl barley is good.

Buckwheat noodles are good. And buckwheat drinks.

Forgot about the Eddie Murphy spoof. I think of the original from The Little Rascals. Man, talk about absolutely no political correctness back then.

Delicious! It’s a nice grain with useful applications. I’ve also had a hard time finding rye berries (seed). Despite it being a common drink here, finding the source ingredients in a non container sized load is proving problematic haha.

from wiki: The series also broke new ground by portraying white and black children interacting as equals during the Jim Crow era of racial segregation in the United States

We sometimes use buckwheat (grechka) as a filling for cabbage rolls.

I’m talking about the name only. Buckwheat was so little in all the shows I remember (memory is very foggy), and so all he could be is a cute little kid.

Unhulled buckwheat:

Kinda like a stuffed pepper

Isn’t Siba noodle made from this? One of the few noodles I actually like. Buckwheat be good :yum:

Also pretty readily available in Taiwan. I’ve been having a hard time getting rye recently, but buckwheat all day!

If that is Japanese one, it is good!

Sorry, soba*

I think it’s japanese? At least we had it a lot in Japan haha.

There’s a Korean naengmyun (cold noodles, lit 冷麵) made from buckwheat.

It’s not too uncommon in Taiwan. Even 711 here sells them ready to eat with soy sauce packs and green onion slices. As is. Im not a noodle guy personally, but If I go noodles, I go soba usually

Very cool. The family are fans of both noddle and Korean food. Did a search for “naengmyun”. Exactly the food I don’t like much and exactly what my wife loves haha. Anyone know the mandarin name of this dish. Looks quite variable, but the main thing is buckwheat based noodles in Korean fashion. I want to go in firing with the in-laws with at least the proper names and give em some noods we can all enjoy together haha.
