Building a new racing team - meeting postponed

the way I feel about it, having a name like “foreign racers” would be a fine and acceptable name, but there still seems to be plenty of room to put our own flavor into it. Why not think of something unique which captures the spirit of what we’re trying to do. This forum is a great place for throwing around ideas and brainstorming. As far is being called “the foreign devils” or “the assasins”, I would personally be opposed to it being as I am something of a lay buddhist. Coming from a martial arts background, I always liked to relate the two sports together. I was trying to think of a good adaptation of my martial arts club’s name, 天武道 (way of the heavenly warriors). Also being a huge fan of the dao, I was hoping to intergrate this character into our team name.

mamma’s boys?

chicanes unlimited?

the fouled plugs?

the piston holers?

Royal Motorised Cycle Dressage Squad?

The Way of the Road?

The Lords of the Rink? (better for a hockey team, admittedly)

Leather Lovers

Big Nose, Big Times

the Lap Dogs.

any time i can be of more help, guys, just let me know.

In my personal opinion I think that we need to decide if we are going to go more serious or witty for a name. I would lean towards a more witty fun name, but I can compromise. I think a witty name would be really cool. We are all just out there having a good time, having a laugh. Once I am on the track I am serious, but how serious are we willing to get with competing? If anyone of us actually does a race, after the race we are required to strip our engines down so the officials can measure our cylinders to make sure we are not cheating. I don’t think Temple was ready for that. You can just forfeit your points if you don’t want to do this. Well if I am racing I am not going to tear down my engine every time, so like I said how serious are we all willing to get out there? Not to say I don’t have faith in us, but I doubt we are just going to sweep in there and start kicking ass. We could, but is that our objective? So having a witty name would work just fine. We would definitely need some sort of vote though.

If you have lived here more than a year are so then you would be familiar with 台客 (tai ke), which translates to local Taiwan youth. It is a growing pop culture phenomenon. The older generation hates it, but that is normal. So we could call ourselves 外客車隊 (wai ke che dui), just getting rid of the Taiwanese aspect and putting in the foreiger Chinese character.

A thought for a funny name…if you are really local, I mean you live out in the booneys you are referred to by the city folk as 很台 (hentai), these are like the chewing betelnut, wearing blue flip-flops with business suits, kicking the dai-gi (Hoklo language) and being damn proud of it. So we could be the 很台車隊, which would completely be the opposite from us being local, might be kind cool, and fun at the same time.

Hmmm… hentai is Japanese manga porn, often specialising in tentacle sex, bondage, and paedophile fetishes. don’t go there.

or if you do, be prepared to display some truly strange logos. that’d unsettle your opponents!

I think we can’t over look that fact that Temple was one of the first guys that has actually been serious about tracking during the last 6 months. I have been wanting to get on the track since the moment I bought my NSR 4 years ago, but I was too much of a baby to do it. If it wasn’t for Temple starting this latest trend I would still be just riding in the mountains. So since he is also the only racer actually signed up for the races I would think he would have much say to what the name should be.

Hmm I didn’t know that. Yeah then probably not a good name.

well guys, first of all, we would need to check who would be in the team, and then get all of us together, get drunk and make a name in the process… Salud !!!
please if you are thinking right now (what a guy, he only thinks in alcohol… that is bad for health and might kill you) well i do think in alcohol, and i know it kills and i know smoking is also bad for health…
but hey guys racing kills too !!! so lets just race and get fun in the process

any official site for the team?!
you can register a new wretch or Myspace…
that will help a lot while you build your team!

I’ve laid a few buddhists myself…does that count?

The “assassin” part of the name comes from “road assassin” which means you can really tear up the road. I was kicking some ass one time and some guy called me it…I thought it sounded cool. :sunglasses:

But whatever…just wanted to let you know I wasn’t trying to promote the assassination of things…since you are against that. I generally just like the word because if you break it up it’s “ass ass in” which is funny to me. But I’m generally known to be immature.

Maybe we could call ourselves Peegew peegew Lee…and explain how in English that means killers. No…that wouldn’t work. Just thinking aloud…don’t mind me.

If you want to win, you need a name that will intimidate from the get go, One might want to get all philosophic about it, and indeed that could be incorporated. One might also be advised that a team name should reflect both the effect on the internals: the machines, the members, the muse.
as well as on the externals
The foe, the foil, and the foray!

Make It so!

To Temple
I think that we are going the wrong way about this.
When forming a group (club) the first important thing to to is to form an administration comity ans elect a president that will lay down the vision and the objectives of the club.

That way, it would be a lot easier to ask the opinions of other members (or to be members) to help you (the team) because these ideas would have to be in accord with the clubs charter and rules.

Also it would be important to have a secretary of treasury since money will be involved. (Registering the club’s name and purchase of clothing/ making a crest/ logo/ stickers ect…)

It would be interesting to know who would like to part of the administration comity and set up a meeting to clarify what we exactly want to do.

As for the president of the group. As a founding member Temple would be my choice as the first president of the club.

An organization without a head is not really organized.

My 2 cents

so heres the first part of what i’ve translated so far. If we found a racing team, we are entitled to the following things :
a 3x3 parking lot space with our name on it during the races, 10 track tickets, one year of registration, priority pick at bike numbers for the races, access to the 2nd floor cafe for meetings, half price for the track tickets, our race points won go towards our team, being “official”.
what it looks like we’ll need is :
5000 registration fee, a responsibility person, a team president, 5 racers, 2 coaches (I assume you can overlap some of these roles, so a minimum of about 7 people). I’ll check further the accuracy of my translation and get some more detailed info later once I ask some Taiwanese ppl.
So basically what it looks like we’ll need is commitment from at least 7 people to play these above listed roles and contribute to the founding fee. I can’t afford right now to pay the fee myself, so I think its reasonable to ask for 700$ or less from everyone who wants to be a part of this. So once it looks like we have the necessary about of people who would commit, we need to set up a meeting date and hammer out all the details like team name and so forth. Hopefully we have what it takes to build the first ever(probably) foreigner racing team in Taiwan!

well i agree with iix23 on the subject of organization, we do need a head on the team, and i also think that Temple could be the one… the money part, well we also need to organize that, have some kind of accounting book, nothing too serious but good enough to clarify the expenses and the incomes, for that i dont know who could be in charged…
about temple’s point, well i think that we could do a meeting with the ones interested on the weekend, maybe this one or i would actually prefer to do it on the saturday 5th, the day of the test, so that we make sure that all the ones that will sign up for the team have the racing license… that will also push the lazy ones to do the test and be in the meeting at the same time. plus that datewould also be good so if someone has any plan for this weekend already, then we could reserve the time for the next one…
and Temple, thanks a lot for all the things that you are doing for the future of the team !!!

I am willing to throw in a 1000$ to start the team.

I will also launch a web TV in the next month and I would be willing to exchange publicity with the team.

For example: In exchange for stickers on the bikes and tags on the clothing (provided by "The Taiwan experience TV .com ) I could give a space on the web TV to the team, plus a weekly/ monthly feature clip on foreign bikers in Taiwan.

Or something like that. We can discuss it when we have a structure.

You all know I am 100% in, and I can vouch for Beast619 too. The money isn’t a problem either, so I can throw in some cash. I will be willing to help as much as possible. When you say 5 racers, does that mean 5 people signed up and actually racing once a month?

sounds like a great project…I would be interested in joining and investing a few bucks to get things going…but I’d be keen on taking a technical position (mechanics and bike set-up…etc) rather than an actual racer…the team would definitely need a decent pit crew with the right tools and basic knowledge…I’ve got a few good tools that I’ve accumulated over my years of riding here as well as a tire temp sensor (for racing)…

anyways…I’ll see what Temple decides…

Cheers
