Um…yes it is. If you want buy the new Lifedrive, it has bluetooth and WiFi and a 4 gig harddrive.
So as I’m in the market for a new PDA, where would be the best place to get such a thing? I need an English OS and user manual. I can buy via the internet if I know where to look. Suggestions?
Lorretta, I bought my HP Ipaq at Nova across from Taipei Main Station. On the second floor there is a booth call “PocketPC Family” or something like that. Their prices were pretty good, and was the only place that carried English os versions of PocketPCs. When I was there I saw a few other foreigners buying from there.
Dude, but that would be, like, PocketPC, man. Wha’happened to, you know, PalmOS?
And do they take credit cards? I’m a bit overspent right now?
Generally, is it cheaper to order online or just buy in Taiwan?
You can do both. I got my Treo 600 (Palm OS phone PDA) from pdaking.com.tw for a couple of thousand less than anywhere else was selling them at the time.
They sent it cash on delivery but I’m sure they take credit cards as well.
It’s about the same price. But you will save on shipping if u buy here, plus if sh*t happens, at least you have a place to take it back to. And yes they take credit card, that’s how I paid.

I recently sold it because I want one with phone capabilities so that I don’t have to carry a cellphone and PDA around. The newest Ipaq below is probably my next choice.
Stan, the Ipaq is probably the best PocketPC out, it has everything you will need. The one I had before had Wifi and Bluetooth, I loved going into a coffee shop and getting connected to the internet automatically, or listening to MP3s on it. I found many freeware software sites that you can get lots of free plug-ins. So I don’t think you will need to spend any money on software. The processor is very fast. The build quality of the Ipaqs are solid. Nothing really to complain about except its kinda pricey. But you get what you pay for, and that’s quality and tons of features (ie Wifi, Bluetooth, Media Player, IR, SD/CF card compatibility, internal mic/speakers, voice recoder, touch screen, etc.).
I’ve been looking at the same model(s) but have been told, in Hsinchu’s Nova, that the IPAQs here in “Taiwan do not support English software”. I just shook my head in disbelief and walked away.
However, I’ll go check out the Nova you or someone mentioned earlier – the one across from Taipei main station.
Thanks again.
Stanley (I think therefore I am… buying an Ipaq… soon).

I checked Nova in ChungLi yesterday.
They can get the HP with English. It takes 2 days. Same price.
HP6365 19,900nt.
The Treo’s change language as far as I can tell.
Treo 600 for 10,500
Treo 650 for 19,900
Cheapest was the Treo 180 for $3,900 It looks okay and if you check the reviews from a few years ago when it was released people loved it. Small with no color on screen though.
I don’t mind the Treo 600. My company is putting up 10k. I would have to find the rest.
Truant…Why would I buy the HP6365 over the Treo 650 and don’t talk about Pocket PC. What are the benefits?
Are these any good? I’m thinking about maybe getting a new PDA myself, one with WLAN support, and this one just about had me sold because of the joke/reference on the PDA screen on the box.
Loretta,
I bought my Palm TE2 in one of the shops at Guanghua market, MRT station Zhongxiao Xinsheng blue line. It cost me 7000 NT$. It is the cheaper model of the palmOS PDAs, doesn’t have WIFI in it, but all the rest included (BlueTooth, IR, SDIO slot, etc.). Has English OS (you can also switch to Chinese if you need). I paid cash, you can also pay by credit card, but then the cost a little bit higher (+3%). You can also find there more advanced model of palm PDA, and all the others. I think the prices at Guanghua are the lowest in Taipei. [/img]
I bought a Dopod 818, and it’s been great.
It’s nearly the size of a cell phone, and not as bulky as the HPs.
Works well with ActiveSync, and in doing so has saved my life a few times.
I had the Motorola A780(so called Linux Smartphone) and that thing was nothing but problematic.
The Dopod is running English Mobile 2003 with Word and Excel, as well as more than a few others. I downloaded PaPaGo 9 and it’s great for long trips or even finding tiny alleys downtown.
It was slightly high priced($18,000) but it was wrth it. I’ve got a few 512MB memory cards so I can use it as an mp3 player and a WiFi card so that I can take advantage of local hotspots while in the city.
I also downloaded some trail Chinese character learning software that works pretty well.
Just my opinion, but I think it makes a great PDA/Camera/mp3 player/phone.
