yeah Loretta how much is it? does it come with a free bluetootj headset??
I dunno what the rates are. I didn’t look into it because I’ve made a lifestyle decision to not have email on the go. I turn my phone off at night too. (In case Erhu gets drunk and horny.)
Presumably you can buy the Treo on a contract plan that will save you few grand up front, but you have to pay for it over two years. I imagine that the whole package is affordable. It has to be, right?
It’s irrelevant to me because I have my own service with dageda that gets me cheaper calls than anyone else, but there are no data services beyond text messaging. I figure that as I’ve survived without email on the go so far, and as I’m trying to simplify my life, I don’t need another complication and I like the cheap calls.
The handset set me back, er, a lot. NT$19000 to be precise. (+NT$400 for use of a credit card!) You have to apply seperately for your free bluetooth headset, and I’ll collect mine on Thursday. The young lady at Nova spoke OK English, and frankly I’m too busy to shop around.
I walked in there between two meetings, seizing a chance that’s been eluding me for ages. My phone is 2.5 years old and puppy-chewed. My PDA crapped out last week. A quick total solution was more important than sacrificing hours and hours shopping around in search of a few thousand off. So please don’t tell me you could have got it cheaper. I don’t care.
She gave me a free leather pouch for it too!! (I had to ask.) I also bought a 1gig flash card to put music onto, but am not impressed with the output - very quiet and in mono.
OS is all English, btw.

ah they didnt give me a leather pouch! but i got it for 18500
I may buy a Treo 180 for 3,000nt.
I want the new technology coming later like Windows 05 will probably be more crash proof and that looks like a significant problem and the fast speed of the new ones coming up. But, I need a pda now to replace the crapped out Sony Clie.
Maybe the old 180 clunker will get me through and I can give it to my SO who has one of my old Aussie phones and can’t text anybody in Chinese. She has had this phone for one year and only just told me about the problem.
I saw a great looking HP Ipaq at Dachi yesterday.
Basically the same as the HP5550 so includes bluetooth, 802.11, etc, but has an extra card slot so SD AND CF cards are supported.
Much thinner and more rugged looking.
around 15,000 NT, sorry I did not get a model number.

Is that still a phone?

ok here it is I think, the Ipaq HX4700 business Pocket PC (no phone):

Daichi probably isn’t the cheapest place either so factor the price downwards from there…

There is a switch in the top so if it breaks the whole thing’s pretty useless unless you can bodge it.
Battery life is also low, at least if you use the phone function.
If you’re sure you’re going to switch to Windows soon then it might be worth it.
i went through 3 Treo 180’s in under 2 years. The flip never broke however. First problem was ear piece broke, second one just crapped its motherboard and the third one never worked on arrival.
I’m talking to my friend right now using Skype and he’s on one of [THESE].
I think I’m getting sold on Windows Mobile.

good man. I will show you all the PPC chinese learning stuff soon then shall I?
You very well could be. I’ve been wanting to buy a new Palm for a while, but they have nothing that tickles the fancy. I was seriously considering the lifedrive for a while, but… nah!
Lifedrive is die waiting. 6 seconds to move between applications. Nasty.
I’d still consider waiting just a little longer for Windows 05. Could be really soon?
I purchased a Treo 180 because I was coming to Australia and feel lost without a PDA and I truly hated the cheap Sony cell phone I had. Irritating little things like you would look a number up and it would swap between name and number every few seconds so you could not see the whole number.
Tero 180 will either last okay or die soon by all accounts. I am taking care of the hinge and downloaded the latest software to give it the best chance. Funny thing is for 3 year old technology it is working out well so far. The PDA shop guy in Melbourne spotted it and was amazed it had lasted so long. I was not going to tell him I just brought it new.
He said they had a 70% failure rate pretty quickly or worked well for ages.
3,600 (not the 3k I thought) and if I get 6 months out of it then I can throw it away and should be in really good new PDA territory with the works.
The X’s pussy just lay on the keyboard and is kneading my stomach with it’s claws. Not too bad really, could get used to it.
Anyone has bought the new Dopod 828 in TW? With the exception of increased RAM, any other spiffy new things? Key question would be does it have English OS?
I was told they would have it in for me in 3 days with English OS if I ordered immediately. That was in Chung Li. I did think if I went to Taipei it would be off the shelf.
Thanks! I’m waiting till Oct when all the 3G services are launched in proper and pricing structure all sorted out. Then, I can Skype all the time. Woo hoo…
I just got back from Singapore and I was tempted by one of these:

Pocket PC, Quad Band GSM phone, GPS, Digital camera, Wifi, Bluetooth, GPRS connectivity etc, etc.
This is getting damn close to the ideal PPC as far as I am concerned, I just don’t like the sacrifice of screen for the buttons. Although after talking with a friend who has got a GSM pocket PC he said that using the stylus to dial is a PITA so buttons would be good.
I didn’t get one, but was very tempted.
Around 23000NT or so.

Look at this baby:

It’s supposed to launch next week(?).
Tri-band GSM, GPRS, Bluetooth, GPS, 1.3MP camera, Windows Mobile 2005…
This is getting pretty close to my dream-gadget. I need a phone+PDA+GPS+camera+small size+long battery life+… OK, I don’t really need it… but I WANT IT… and so far I couldn’t find anything really worth buying.
I hope this one gets in the stores soon:

yes, yes, yes. Now we are talking…
Wow, I like that. That is almost perfect for my needs to. My student’s mum was showing off her dopod 828 the other day and told me she could get me one for 17,9 but tempting as it was, I really want to get one that’s bundled with windows 2005.
