close, but no cigar

Yeah, I noticed that along other things which made me think that not only thatā€™s a simplification, but a localised one if you know what I mean.

The thing is that most people no matter what ideas the defend would like to see themselves as the ones who really have science backing up their posturesā€¦

Maybe I should read the case more in depth but what I think that happened there is that he was already fed up with being forced to do the kneeling down thing. This reminds me of an Argentinean (?) female soccer player who refused to do the same when Maradona died and everybody was told to show their respect to the biggest (cocaine addicted) football player ever. TBH that case was a bit the opposite, since her reasons for NOT doing it were political while the homage DID make sense since they were showing respect to the player, not the person. However she got a lot of shit for that but also a lot of supporters saying that she was right, that fuck that misogynistic rapist macho. Yes, Iā€™m classifying feminism as a political posture here.

My take on that wasā€¦ bad for her for not separating one thing from another, but I guess I support her right to participate or not of the homage without being harassed by idiots within or outside her team. So yeah, I totally support this guy telling the BLM bullies to fuck off since he thinks his country has done a lot for accommodating lots of different people and that thereā€™s still a lot to do for other people who donā€™t impose their political opinions and of course because his conception of what should be going on on the arena is IMO more right than what other political/social movements want to happen there.

Sure. Heā€™s an American football player after all  However Iā€™d like to hear your input on this.

What soccer lady? where you reading behind my shoulder as I was typing the previous paragraphs??? :open_mouth:

Sounds like I really have missed some part of the story.

Erā€¦ I think the term fascism is REALLY overused, and misusedā€¦

My understanding is that there was some privatization of public companies and industries so despite he was a former socialist (wasnā€™t he kicked out of the party?), he wasnā€™t really a socialist when he forged the fascism (actually I think he despised socialism?).

I think Iā€™ve used this before, but Mussolini defined fascism as the barriers between the public and private sector breaking down entirely
OIP

(I donā€™t agree with the bottom half of this meme for the record but thatā€™s the quote)

Can we use the more appropriate term ā€œtotalitarianā€ here? or maybe, perhaps, ā€œradicalā€? or ā€œintolerantā€? or ā€œviolentā€? because itā€™s hard to know what you guys really mean by fascist. Nowadays it seems to be just a wildcard for any of all of those things plus anything else you donā€™t like or would like to see removed from society.

Itā€™s vague. It could mean different thing, itā€™s an idea that could be implemented in totally opposite waysā€¦

Speaking for myself, it is helpful to have degrees, in science for example. Having taken courses on logic in both maths and philosophy. Being able to read science having taken courses in quants and quals. Being a published researcher, peer reviewer, and journal editor (not copyeditor). You know, credentials.

It is a good idea before sharing opinions, though for the life of me I donā€™t think Iā€™ve convinced anyone this is a good idea.

I gave it: players shouldnā€™t be punished for kneeling; anyone who thinks punishment for political opinions is fair game opens themselves up to the same punishment. Fuck that guy.

From your article:

The devil is in the details?

Fuck me, what am I doing in this thread? I though that like the woke left thread it would be about funny horrible and stupid things that happen because of social media and shit. However, itā€™s becoming a political discussionā€¦ Iā€™m outta here!

Fascism and totalitarianism overlap certainly.
Economic fascism = Far RW economics/Trickle Down/Libertarianism
Political Fascism = authoritarian rule, usually centered around ideas of an ethnostate
social fascism = police state, war on drugs, legally embedded white supremacy in US case
Legal/Judicial fascism = Citizens United, Restrictions on immigrant rights, Denial of rights
Educational fascism = banning/censorship of academic materials, defunding universities
Labor Fascism = Union busting, outsourcing jobs, silly low minimum wage.

This is obviously not exact consider that a rough draft but its good to define it. Iā€™d like to know what @mick thinks

Just for the record I wasnā€™t questioning you, I was just pointing out that many people claim to be talking in behalf of science.

I see where he comes from but I agree with you but looking at what some cellebrations or events have become I see where heā€™s coming from.

However, did he really say players kneeling down should be punished?

Do you really want me to keep quoting your article? Have you given it a line-by-line reading?

I knew the case from a different source, and I only posted that article because it was the first one I found on that topic.

ā€˜Fuck that guyā€™ he said about a guy 54 million dollars richer, 10x smarter and more accomplished than heā€™ll ever be.

Give 100 bucks in charity to his millions and you can talk about this. What have you done anywhere like him? Nothing.

@mad_masala that was directed at @TT about his quote above, not you.

Are you defending this guy, or are you just confused again?

Of course, but no. I mean, Fascism is totalitarian. Same with other postures like Communism (or the only form of it that has happened in planet Earth so far).

Iā€™m not sure how much I agree with the rest of the post but Iā€™m happy to see that you guys put some definitions so itā€™s easier for you guys to have a real discussion about the same things, and not confusing parallel speeches on different things

My bad I thought you were talking about Kapernick. People criticizing him get my dander up. No youā€™re right, f this guy.

It helps. Iā€™ll also be happy to give examples that Mick called for if he will define his terms clearly.

Iā€™m actually not the racist you have both stated and insinuated that I am. If you slowed down a little you might be able to see this. Anyways, thanks for acknowledging the mistake this time. Perhaps there is hope for you yet.
