Cheeseburgers in Taiwan

fee - a little sensitive there. relax.

i too thought about tryiing it but thought better. what i expecetd.

q-bar - great burgers but what a fukcin smokcey restaurant - never go back except to take out.

Be warned.

OK. I guess I’ll just head off to the Breeze Center to enjoy one of the cheeseburgers there–and pick up some more Belgian beers from the supermarket. That’s a great way to relax.

yo the kitchen staff at q bar can play pool…

Yo, for a limited time only, Burger King is offering the Australian Double Cheeseburger. It costs 79NT. The distinguishing feature seems to be the spicy barbeque sauce. There are two options for the burger, one with a slice of ham, and the other without. Not bad for a change of pace.

Fee, Mary’s Hamburger and Jake’s both in Tian Mu have good western cuisine and have been around for a while! Chung Shan North Rd Sec 6.

I had a burger @ Sunday’s on Friday before I went to see a movie I didn’t want to see but eventually liked to see … anyhow, the meat was nearly raw inside so it get’s my thumbs down. Though I guess for NT$150 you can’t really complain if it would be cooked well; the fries are ok and the small can of coke is just fine with me.

Go try BlastBurger in Zhong He it’s in the food court at the RT mart near Shin Dien. I shit you not it is the best burger in this country. The bun was beautiful, the burger was seasoned and cooked to perfection, the cheese was awesome.

Now the fries were fresh, from scratch you could actually taste the potato flavour. I went for the poutine and it was sooo good.

Damage for a Large pop poutine and a single cheeseburger with bacon and fries was $159 oh and it filled me up all day.

The only downside was that they put sprouts on the burger but that’s ok.

PS The owner is a former club med chef so the food’s gotta be awesome.

No chance of Argentine beef because of a case of foot and mouth disease on the border of Bolivia. Latest news that I am aware of. Damn.

Second, go back to the QBar. It has been remodeled and is NO LONGER smoky. This used to be an issue with me too.

Best burgers, well don’t laugh but Friday’s on Changchun does all right by me and I have had occasional good ones in Swensen’s on Renai Circle. I prefer these to Dan Ryan’s. Mary’s hamburgers are terrible, but it is an institution, and the worst are at Juke’s on Heping. Ground cat burgers or some such stuff absolutely terrible.

Have not yet had the burgers at Carnegie’s yet. What about an invite Taipei Bob? hahaha

freddie

Well, erm…Freddie. You are most welcome to come and try one of our excellent burgers but the problem is we have a lot of “Fred Smith’s” as regular burger consumers I wouldn’t know which of them is you. Now if you were to call in advance and we agree upon some sort of dinguishing recognition thing, like, well…you could carry a copy of, I dunno, “Socialist Worker” under your arm, for example, then that would identify you. [/i]

Hmmm a lot of Fred Smiths huh? What is this some kind of abuse of my good name? I tell you what. You will recognize me in the following way:

  1. I am short, dumpy and losing my hair
  2. I am badmannered, arrogant, condescending, snooty, snide and rude.
  3. I will wear a navy blazer because it is the only item of clothing I have. I have limited closet space on the sidewalk in front of Swensen’s that I have to share with the bag lady.
  4. I swill my wine and gobble my food.
  5. Given the presence of kittens, puppies and other cute, furry creatures, I am instinctively unable to prevent myself from ensuring a swift and vicious kick with my gucci loafer of said helpless, defenseless, cuddly creature into a mud puddle or oncoming traffic.
  6. I probably will vent, rant and rave uncontrollably about the need for America to kick ass and take over another helpless country say Syria?
  7. Anything French causes me to froth and wave my arms about in a most unappealing fashion. Get it FASHION?
  8. I will give you a password. The password is the owner of the hotel in Calcutta. You know the one.
  9. Finally, if all else fails, look for the Michael Moore book. I will be clutching it closely along with Noam Chomsky’s 911.

Looking foward to seeing you, hey what about Monday the 24th? I think a certain bag lady I know might be available that night. heh heh heh.

I notice with great dismay Matthew that you did not question the use of fat balding or short… :smiling_imp:

Fido:

I note with some sadness that Ted Smith owner of ‘that hotel in Calcutta’ died in November 2002 :frowning: . The irrepressible Mrs Smith is still going strong, probably with aid of a bottle of McDowell’s Finest Bengal Gin  . Unfortunately, neither you nor I are listed in their ‘who’s who’ of noted hotel guests

As this has gone off topic; they (probably, if one asks) do Cheese 'Buff’burgers and fries.

Bob

P.S. Monday is the 23rd FYI.

They are quite good!

I went there yesterday based on yours and tigerman’s recommendation. Coal in both your stockings! The bun is moist and chewy because they microwave it :x , and the burger patty itself was nothing special. Neither were the fries. That place has nothing on either Dan Ryan’s or the Q Bar. Better than McD’s, but that’s not saying much.[/quote]

Finally tried the Sunday’s burger last Thursday.

  • Bun could have been lightly toasted or put on the grill so it isn’t so moist and chewy
  • Burger patty seems like standard Costco pack patty
  • Loved the fries
  • Not that great, but considering the price, it’s acceptable.

I still like Q-Bar for burgers; a huge slab of ground beef with lots of garnishes - good value for your burger dollar. You might consider phoning your order ahead if they’re busy, though; they’re not the quickest when it comes to getting the food on the table.

Had a really good burger at lunch today. It had two all-beef patties that were separated by an extra slice of bread. The top bun was just covered in sesame seeds. They used some tangy sauce that really was special. With lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions it was a meal I won’t soon forget. The place is in Donghu just before you get to river from the North. Across from a Welcome and a KFC. The sign looks like a big yellow M. Check it out. I’m lovin’ it.

Yesterday I had a double mushroom cheeseburger from Burger King. It was good, but I was really looking for a double bacon cheeseburger on sourdough bread that they had a few weeks ago, which was even better.

I liked the sourdough thing too. Sadly, it seems to be gone. Tried the fried cheese today. What a rip off. Four tiny balls of fried cheese for NT$25.

I noticed they still do breakfast buns with sourdough, but as I don’t get out of bed before 11 am I’m unlikely to ever taste them.
