China has a technology disadvantage. China needs to spend considerably more time energy money on closing that gap that USA needs to keep the gap.
The thing is… I don’t think your statement is correct.
It’s not about winning, it’s about the price. The price is just too high and there needs to be an extraordinary reason to justify that price, which I can’t see at this point.

Hmm- I wonder if the current energy crisis will tell against Xi. I don’t expect him to be overthrown or anything, but I wonder if there will be some murmuring from Party factions that maybe he should tone down the aggressive posturing to the world and instead look after things back home.

Yes I agree, they can win a war right now I think. I also think enough people in the PLA and the party would love to start a war, but the cost is going to be high on every level. Thats why they will do anything to try and win without firing a weapon
