And you go check the amount of people who indicate while doing hook turns. Theres an argument to be had.
Everyone speeds too, and many go through red lights.
Yea because the traffic system here as written doesn’t always make sense. Personally I think indicators help a lot when driving here.
Are you suggesting staying within the speed limits and stopping at red lights doesn’t make sense?
The argument to be had is that they are following the rules, as turn boxes are set back or are zoned off for safety, they are classes as a different lane.
You need to indicate to change lane, this is how it was explained to me on my scooter test years ago, and was backed up on the curent MVDIS website.

Now if there is a separate law saying you shouldn’t indicate (I haven’t seen that), I can understand where the confusion is with contradictory laws.
Assuming there is a second law saying don’t indicate
@RandomName maybe you can post it here.
That would mean you could challenge any fine you got for using a right hand turn signal or not using one, the only thing you couldn’t set away with is using the left hand turn signal.
No need for additional laws as they consider it going straight at intersection to waiting area.
It is the correct answer in the exam. Also, the fact that you are you are meant to use the straight lane to enter waiting area should be a big clue.
Also the sign is two straight arrows, no turning arrow.
Well it’s the one thing I got marked down for in the test, thats why I asked.
Now in life when I ride I don’t indicate, unless some idiot squeezes in on the right side of me while I’m waiting.
People who know me in life @TT could verify, I very much subscribe to the Southern school style of scooter fu.
So when I break the law I like to know when I’m doing it, if I get caught I think it’s a fair cop.
There’s one intersection in Kaohsiung i find a bit hairy doing a hook turn from the straight/through lane. Wufu road into Hedong road after crossing bridge from Yancheng to Qianjin. So many scooters go straight from right turn only lane and at speed.
The first time I saw him slice the watermelon into a little alley in front of a fast moving car, I almost fell off my Wolf!
Kaohsiung has a lot of shity intersections for scooters, and I think they got a deal on red lights, hit one, get the next three red also.
Loads of room, the car didn’t even beep to say thank you.

This answer would suggest that only the brake light is required when slowing down to enter left turning box.
And then they wonder why people run red lights, or speed to get through a section. Actually, nobody wonders. Not really the way they seem to do things. A checklist would be better.
Yes I am to a degree.
The written speed limits are not the actual speed limits, literally 99% of drivers go faster than the speed limit unless there is a speed camera nearby, which their GPS will alert them of.
So why would you go against the flow of traffic and drive 10,20,30 kmh slower than everyone else and piss people off? It makes no sense why the written limits are not just the actual limits and if you drive faster, you get a fine.
Same for red lights. Going through a red is normalized in Taiwan because going through a yellow means speed up, and you won’t get fined for it 99% of the time.
So no it doesn’t surprise me that hook turn rule also makes little sense.
I know a skinny street with 3 sets of traffic lights where if you do 50kmph you will make every light… but if you do 45kmph or get stuck behind someone… you won’t make it through the next light.
This situation is the only one where you actually drive straight. Otherwise its always a turn into a road. And I still think it would make sense to indicate for these ones also.
It doesn’t make sense as you aren’t turning right with the other traffic turning right.
Also, the waiting area is in front of the stop line for the intersection of the other street. You haven’t entered the other street.
You are describing why there is a thread about how bad Taiwan’s roads are. Why join them in this behaviour?
