Clubbing in Taipei -- what to bring?

Hi guys, Canadian-born Taiwanese here! I’m going clubbing this weekend in Taipei for the first time, and don’t know what to bring/what to wear (I’m a girl, but also asking for my brother).

  1. What do guys/girls normally wear? It seems like it’s a little less dressy than in Canada/America, what would be considered acceptable?
  2. I don’t have Taiwanese citizenship, what sort of ID do I need to bring? Is Canadian drivers license okay, or would I need to bring my passport? Photocopy of passport?
  3. Where are the best clubs to meet young people?

Thanks!

Bring your passport if it’s AI club. The staff there wouldn’t let me in even though I had an ARC residence card. The others I’m not sure.

Taiwan clubs are great fun if you are a guy.

From what I’ve seen though, not great to be a girl. Unless you want some random Taiwanese guy to start grinding against you I would stay away. People here seem to think you are asking for it if you go clubbing.

My, how things have changed since I was clubbing. What, exactly, is “asking for it”?

Asking for intimacy…

That’s vile. A woman at a club is “asking” to be fucked? :face_vomiting:

Avoid flip flops and Crocs. Anything else is okay.

That’s why I don’t recommend girls go clubbing here.

Discrimination!

Please tell me more about your experience.

No. He thinks that guys in general think a woman in a club is asking to be fucked.

While there are one or two bad apples maybe, if this was so widespread, clubs wouldnt be popular with women.

Right. I don’t think girls are asking for it. I have just observed how locals treat girls in the clubs here, and it isn’t pretty.

Are you talking about grinding?

Grinding, touching, the works.

Hang on. Girls are allowed into clubs in Taiwan?

Free entry usually, to encourage them.

But shouldn’t girls be at home doing homework and stuff?

Pepper spray, apparently.

This reads to me like @meishijia is saying that guys think women in nightclubs are “asking for it”. It does not read anything like @meishijia is saying that women in nightclubs are “asking for it”.

Happy to. I was in line for a long time. Been there before with my ARC, no problem.
This time the lady at the door rudely pushes the ARC away with her hand and goes “No. No this. Passport or you dont go in!”

I go “What? I’ve been here before and it was oka-”

And suddenly these two AI bouncer type dudes put their hands on me and “walk me” to the elevator and say “That is before. This is now. You go. You go!”

I’m not an aggressive person or anything and I was genuinely confused. I suppose it is discrimination but at the time I was more livid that within about 7 seconds I went from calmly standing in line to get into a nightclub to suddenly having people manhandle me and physically moving my body to where they see fit. (Actually not the first time bouncers there have been unnecessarily physical)

Since that experience I absolutely abhor AI and will never go back.

TLDR: OP if you are looking to go to AI bring a passport and a wrestling mat.

Last time I said that to my wife, I was grounded for a month.
