I’m curious why it seems to be the pilots testing positive (and being focused on) rather than the flight attendants, who presumably have much greater contact with passengers.
Do they also have the very short quarantine period? Have there been any positive cases reported among those yet?
Cargo pilots (and the people they have infected) have been the focus lately—but as I understand it, the mass testing / vaccination campaign at China Airlines has been for all its employees (i.e. not restricted to cargo pilots alone).
Three pilots, who have no record of having been infected with COVID-19, tested positive for the coronavirus’ antibodies on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the wife of one of the three pilots and the son of another, tested positive for COVID-19.
Four other family members of the two pilots also tested positive for the virus’ antibodies and the results indicate that they were infected some time ago, said Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), who heads the CECC, at a press briefing.
“These are clearly cluster infections that happened a long time ago” within these two families, Chen said.
No. NTUST has asked the students and faculty who reportedly spent time at Taipei’s Mosque to conduct “self health management” and NOT to come to school.
They then moved all courses online for one week (perhaps longer depending on how things play out).
There’s a million things wrong with this case (again, this is the recent local transmission not connected to the pilots)—not respecting quarantine, and then not reporting the break in quarantine as per protocol.
You can say that this is old people just being old people, or family just taking care of family. But I personally hope these guys get their asses fined for all the risk they’ve spread and the chaos they’ve caused.
The Central Epidemic Command Center announced today (29) that there are 2 new domestic cases and 1 confirmed case of COVID-19 in the country. Among the local cases, 1 was an airport epidemic prevention hotel employee (case 1120), and 1 case was a case of 1078. Resident family (Case 1121); The case under investigation is an airline pilot (Case 1122).
The command center stated that Case 1120 is a 40-year-old male with a nationality of over 40 years old. He is an employee of an airport epidemic prevention hotel. He has no recent history of going abroad. The usual work items are to check the cleanliness of the room environment, occasionally assist the crew to buy items or send spare parts, wear masks and wear masks during work. gloves. The case continued to develop cough, runny nose, loss of appetite and wheezing from April 17th, and went to the clinic several times from April 19th to April 26th. Because the symptoms did not improve, he went to the hospital for medical treatment on April 27th. After being diagnosed with pneumonia, he was admitted to hospital for isolation and examination, and was diagnosed today (Ct value 21, serum antibodies IgM and IgG are positive).
All this sort of stuff is to be expected. Humans will be humans. In Kiwiland there was a case where the virus spread from one person in quarantine to another simply because they opened their respective doors at the same time to receive food. The virus simply jumped rooms (in air con environments this can happen). They know this because they reviewed CCTV footage.
In Australia we had hotel workers having sex with people in quarantine.
The point being, vent all you want, it’ll get you nowhere. No epidemic response is airtight (well except for China, but they literally have the power to lock people up whenever they want).
However, on April 17, he began to develop a cough, runny nose, loss of appetite, and shortness of breath. He visited a clinic several times between April 19 and 26.
As his symptoms did not improve, he went to a hospital for treatment on April 27. Doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia and he was admitted into the hospital for isolation and testing.
On April 29, he was diagnosed with COVID-19 with a Ct value of 21 and was found to be positive for both IgM and IgG antibodies.
So - a quarantine hotel manager experiences COVID symptoms, visists a clinic and they don’t think testing him would be a good idea…? He was only diagnosed 12 days after his symptoms started!
Feels like the CECC assumes wearing masks is 100% effective in preventing COVID-spread so there seems to be no “safeguard” in place in case health workers get infected
Because he was not involved in the cleaning itself, Chen does not believe that he contracted the disease from environmental contamination, but rather through a chain of transmission among cleaning staff. Fearing an outbreak inside the hotel, the CECC ordered the hotel to be evacuated, cleaned, disinfected and left vacant for two weeks.
[…]
However, three staff members had been reported as having a fever and had been sent to a hospital to undergo testing. The hotel is expected to be completely empty by 5 p.m., after which time the hotel’s interior and guest rooms will be inspected.
So quarantine employees do not seem to undergo self-health monitoring or regular testing. They only learned that they had a fever when they started evacuating the hotel.
I really hope they can get these clusters under control soon!
