I’m at the RT Mart visited by the positive cases now rubbing my big nose on everything. Wish me luck!
I don’t know what you’re wearing, but most people are wearing surgical (the blue ones with white).
Again, no idea what you’re talking about, but the cloth ones are the ones made of fabric, and they are usually black or gray, and sometimes different colors.
Cloth masks don’t do anything to prevent covid (some tests suggest they could help a little, some suggest they hurt a little). Surgical ones provide minimal help with original flavor WuFlu, but I’ve not seen anything that indicates they are effective against the more infectious strains. N95 and KN95 look like fancy surgical ones that form fit with your face and are the only things that have been shown to have moderate success in preventing the spread, but they also need to be worn very specifically to be useful (which most people don’t seem to do).
This. I am referring to whether someone will actually step up and enforce use of a surgical (not cloth mask). In my experience, hospitals are one such place.

Has anyone seen any report on how many of these eleven new local cases were already in isolation?
I am trying to find some silver in the grey here.
Guy
Is there a law on which places require surgical masks, or is it site specific?
I think this may be the time for you to contact Marco’s lawyer.
My point was simple: masks are required in a wide variety of situations now in Taiwan across the nation. Cloth masks are effectively useless. However only in certain situations will someone actually step up and tell you to wear a surgical mask.
I hope this is now clear to you.

Its only “obviously” if there is any data, and AFAIK there isn’t.
The main role of surgicals is to intercept droplets from the wearer, and a cloth mask will likely do that “to some extent” (Chernobyl mask quote)
IIRC air pollution effectiveness of a bandana and surgical mask was about the same. (10-15%.)
Similar uncertainty with the foam masks. I wear them inside the surgicals to protect the latter from me, so they don’t get so sweaty and bacterial and I can stretch their life to 3 days or so. Ought to also increase filtration efficiency and improve the foam masks fit, since they don’t have a nose wire.
Thanks for trying to help, but no, it is not at all clear to me. I am looking for an answer on what the law is on masking: specifically, if wearing cloth masks is compliant with the laws on masking.
There’s a lot of data on this. In lab testing, cloth masks can offer some minimal protection from spreading original flavor covid, while the real world data generally shows that the cloth masks do nothing or even contribute to the spread (I say generally as one study showed they were somewhat helpful, and there may be other such studies that I have missed).
In Taiwan, there is currently no law stating the masks we wear must be of a certain type.
However, the regulations put forth so far in Chinese state we must wear 口罩. Which translates to face mask.
If you wear a bandana over your face, that would not be a 口罩. It would be a 頭巾. And a cloth face mask, like scooter drivers wear, are called 布面罩, not 口罩.
In this case, I believe as with all laws and regulations in Taiwan, the Chinese supercedes the English. I don’t think you would be stopped or fined for wearing a cloth version of a 口罩. But my guess is that a bandana won’t go over so well in closely monitored places like public transport, schools or hospitals and doctor clinics.
Thank you for the clarification!
Umm…never mind.
Well, I’ve seen a lot of data, and a lot of it was conflicting, so maybe I should have said AFAIK there is no definitive data on it.
Maybe now there is. I havn’t looked into it for maybe a couple of years.
OP is apparently only concerned with compliance. Easy enough to test, just carry a backup to avoid inconvenience.
nah, they cases are all very traceable…unkown 10 would have been bad…but it’s not looking good because now you have a much wider web to trace with even more people testing positive, but I think those folks were all under quarantine due to the contact they had.
CDC still have not updated their web site, so nothing apart from what’s in the Presser.
But they have updated their Facebook site in the past 10 minutes.
see this…
If by OP you mean me, I was talking about compliance. I find the whole masking thing stupid, unscientific, and harmful to children, so I just want to do the bare minimum under the law and was wondering if the laws have changed. Apparently they haven’t. My kids and I have only ever worn cloth masks without incident (school, hospitals, government buildings) so if the laws haven’t changed we should be fine.
Your idea of “fine” differs slightly from mine.
Guy
That’d be my guess, plus of course its Taiwan, so the Letter (er Logogram) of the Law matters rather less than how or if its enforced.
The incident of the fourth chain of transmission was initially when a child of the family being cared for went to the doctor because of a fever, and the hospital immediately screened and confirmed the diagnosis of new coronary pneumonia . The family members of the child are the uncle and mother, and the resident service worker who took care of the family was also diagnosed. After the epidemic investigation, it was found that the husband of the living service clerk was one of the trolley workers who were screened in Beishi.
Can anyone tell me if we’re going into lockdown or if life is going to continue as normal this evening and tomorrow and beyond?
