Just for the saje of argument, why is anyone out there in this friggin heat? Unless you are a construction engineer or any other outdoor job. It is 41 degrees, heatstroke is far quicker and certain if you go outside.

I suppose that many people don’t want to stay at home all of the time and value exercise and fresh air? Yes, it’s hot, but it’s like that every summer.

I don’t like the heat/humidity here either, but I can definitely go outside without heatstroke being “certain”.

That’s how I initially (mis)read the article too, but note that the 6.6% figure relates to kids under the age of five. I guess the numbers for the 5-11 and 11-18 age groups are much higher.

The command center pointed out that there were 62 new deaths from local cases today, including 36 males and 26 females, aged in their 40s to over 90s. All had severe infections, 61 had a history of chronic disease, 38 hadn’t received the recommended 3 doses of COVID-19 vaccine and 24 hadn’t received any doses at all. The command center stated that among the 149 new cases of immigration today, 83 were males and 66 were females, ranging in age from under 5 to over 80 years old, from the United Kingdom (8 cases), Vietnam (5 cases), and Thailand. (4 cases), the Philippines, the United States and Japan (3 cases each), Luxembourg, France, Malaysia and Germany (2 cases each), Italy, the Faroe Islands, Hungary, Singapore, Venezuela, China and the United Arab Emirates (1 each case), another 108 cases of infection are under national investigation. The entry date is from June 28 to July 27 this year.

According to the statistics of the command center, up to now, a total of 14,712,215 new coronavirus pneumonia-related notifications (including 10,181,650 excluded) have been reported in Taiwan, of which 4,522,365 were confirmed, including 19,265 imported cases, 4,503,046 local cases, 36 Dunmu Fleet cases, 3 aircraft infections, 1 case is unknown and 14 cases are under investigation. The Monkeypox oral antiviral drug purchased by Taiwan has arrived and will be used for confirmed cases of severe and immunocompromised patients

Summary

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (hereinafter referred to as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) stated today (28) that the oral antiviral drug tecovirimat for Monkeypox purchased from abroad had arrived in Taiwan yesterday evening (27) and will complete the customs clearance and acceptance procedures. It will then be allocated to the district control centers of the department. The drug will be examined by physicians to evaluate the benefits and risks of treatment, fully inform the patient and apply for it after obtaining consent. After approval, it will be used for confirmed cases of severe and immunocompromised patients.

According to the CDC, and the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Center for Disease Control (ECDC), most Monkeypox patients do not need special treatment, and supportive treatments such as infusion therapy and maintenance nutrition are the mainstays to alleviate the disease, symptoms and complications. The oral antiviral drug tecovirimat is recommended for severely ill or immunocompromised patients with confirmed Monkeypox infections.

According to the CDC, tecovirimat is approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the treatment of Orthopoxvirus Smallpox, Monkeypox and Vaccinia; the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is approved for use in the treatment of Smallpox. (CDC) Project approval for the treatment of patients at high risk of becoming severely ill or with risk factors for severe disease due to Monkeypox virus infection in order to reduce the chance of death. On July 13 this year, the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Taiwan agreed to approve the import of its project in accordance with Article 48-2 of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention emphasized that Monkeypox was announced as a second-class notifiable infectious disease on June 23 this year. A total of 13 suspected cases have been reported, including 2 confirmed cases imported from abroad. The infected countries are Germany and the United States, and the remaining 11 cases have been reported. Excluded; from June 30, the tourism epidemic situation in 49 countries with local or unknown Monkeypox cases has been upgraded to “Level 2: Alert”. The agency reminds that if Taiwanese people travel to these countries, they should avoid high-risk places such as social activities that may be in close contact with unspecified people. There are special masks with wider space that won’t give you hives or stick to your sweaty faces when biking/exercising. I gave you the links in the mask thread.

Can you or somebody repost those links? I avoid all the negative threads and I guess you mean the mask complaint thread which I’m sure is full of negativity.

Since the start of Covid I have worn the 3M cloth masks you can buy in any Watsons or other places. They tie around your ears and they can hang as loosely or tightly as you want depending on how you tie them. I usually have it very loose, especially outside, to the point where it is almost a chin diaper. I can tighten it up when I go into an office or MRT. They are rewashable and don’t look as bad as those surgical ones. Has worked very well for me mostly as a fig leaf outdoors but sometimes as protection when warranted indoors.

Now if you do not have AC, I can understand that. Worse indoors without it.

Assuming you mean people out unnecessarily. I usually exercise outside at noon but have avoided it the last couple of weeks as we reach record temperatures. Heat stroke is on the rise, often in young people out exercising in it who think they are impervious to it. And there too many examples of young people who have died of heat stroke during summer American football practices.

Thanks for the updates and hard work ! Seems its (COVID) here to stay. Back home in Japan numbers have been sky high when I thought it was done with after the last wave and now the 7th wave (the big one) is going on now in Japan, I had a break in the Baltics where they very low COVID so forgot about it a bit, but back to reality now after seeing Japan’s numbers.
